There are two things I'm looking for from a universal remote control. Firstly, it absolutely, positively, without fail must be able to duplicate every button I use on existing remote controls. There's just no point if you find yourself reaching for other remotes.

Secondly, it's got to be well designed. There's no point holding an unconfortable brick in your hand that requires 2 hands to operate (Kameleon range, I'm looking at you).

Finally, we have here a remote that ticks both boxes. The buttons are well laid out. They give proper tactile feedback when pressed. The remote sits confortably in your hand and you can reach the most commonly used buttons comfortably. I think the biggest test is whether you can use a remote quickly without looking at it and you can with this.

Of course, this would be nothing wihtout being properly programmable. This unit has replaced my Sky+, TV, DVD, AMP and Apple TV remotes and done it very well indeed. Many hundreds of codes are provided for you in the manual (which is short, but provides all you need to know). Remotes without codes or special features can be programmed in by pointing two remotes at each other and 'teaching' the One-4-All the other remote's functions. Best of all, once in learning mode, you can do button after button in seconds without lots of complicated key presses. Top marks here.

This unit came very, very close to top marks. Its design and programmable keys are well thought out. There are several nice touches. The up/down/left/right/OK circle being right under your thumb and slightly sunken provide your thumb with a reference point when you're not looking at the remote. The button for the device which you are controlling flashes red whenever you press a button, so you never forget which one you have selected. It misses one final star because the buttons for selecting each device should have been a little larger and these don't provide the best tactile feedback either, in contrast to every other button on the remote. Also, buttons nearer the bottom of the remote are slightly hard to reach comfortably and whilst these aren't use often *and* it's a failing of many standard remotes, this is the kind of foible a universal remote should solve. Lastly in our list of faults, it needs 4 AAA batteries which were not included. Really, I though the whole "batteries not included" debacle was over now and no-one ever had the cheek to ship a product that couldn't be used out of the box and everyone was bitter about AV equipment not coming with the right cables. Seems not.

Still, these are (very) minor flaws in what has to be the best universal remote I have used. And I've had the odd few, all of which has been resigned to... well, wherever it is that unwanted remotes go to die. This one will have a long and happy life resting with me on the sofa.

Having hunted around for some time to find a multi-unit universal remote control that actually does what it's supposed to has taken me quite some time.

But the One 4 All Universal Remote really does it all. I set up my Sony Wega 60" TV, my Panasonic Sky Digibox and my LG Combo DVD recorder/VHS player in just a few minutes using the standard preset codes.

Any keys on the old remote which don't work can be programmed onto any button on the One 4 All that you choose - particularly important with my Combo DVD/VHS which can switch between the DVD and VHS via one push of a button.

But here's the really clever bit which they don't tell you about - even if there is no standard code for your particular unit (as was the case with my son's Xbox 360) you can program the on-off button from your existing remote and then go on to manually set up all the other buttons.

It actually makes sense to buy this universal remote and set it up for all your original remotes before they break or get lost or are eaten by the dog - a bit like backing up your computer before you lose your data!

There are lots more features which I haven't got round to using yet such as macros which will allow one button to execute several button sequences on several remotes. Imagine a single button to turn everything off when you go to bed!

A very good buy.

This is the best remote I have ever used....and I've used a lot. It is simple and quick to program - even if you want to program macro commands (don't get scared now!) I programmed it so that by pressing one button it will turn on/off ALL of my home entertainment system in one go.

I use it with the All in One remote radio extender - which allows me to hide all my players, amps, game stations in a cupboard where a normal infra red remote wouldn't reach. (It keeps all the boxes away from pets and babies!!!)
