"One Yard Wonders" will delight anyone who has ever fallen for fabric - from the novice sewing enthusiast to the lifelong seamstress. The book presents a delightful array of simple, stylish projects that can be made with just a single yard of fabric - from apparel to accessories, from plush toys to pet beds, from baby items to bags, and from home decor to 'Happy Birthday' banners. Projects have a hip, contemporary flair, and most can be completed in a few hours. For each project, the book provides a full-color photograph, easy step-by-step instructions, and simple illustrations. Templates and pattern pieces are also included wherever needed, making this collection of 101 projects the best sewing deal ever. Great fabric demands to be purchased, even if it's just a yard or two at a time. But such tantalizing textiles should never hide in a closet; "One Yard Wonders" promises gift-worthy solutions for that stash of irresistible fabric-store buys. At last, it's time to stop storing and start sewing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some good projects, but not great instructions. 10 Feb 2010
Format:Hardcover-spiral
I've waited for a bit to review this book because I wanted to complete some projects from it first so I could give a more comprehensive review. It all looks very pretty, but it's a sewing book so it's more important that the projects work and are easy to make rather than having pages and pages of fancy photos!

I've made three things so far - the children's messenger bag, the folklore bag and the petite diaper tote. They've all turned out ok, but there were problems along the way - the Folklore bag pattern had errors in it (you can now get the corrections on the publishers website), and the diaper tote was hard to put together as there were so few diagrams. In fact I think that's the biggest problem with this book, the instructions are nearly all text and there aren't nearly enough pictures to help you understand how things go together.

The other problem is those lovely photos of the finished projects. It looks like some of the photos are of prototypes rather than the finished patterns - the folklore bag pictured in the book has two bottom / side pieces rather than one and there's no top stitching although the instructions tell you to. It also looks much larger in the picture! The petite diaper tote is only pictured with the change pad unfolded, so I really didn't know what the bag would look like when it was finished and the change pad was folded away!

All of this aside, it's good value for money. There are lots and lots of projects to sew, and if you like bags or have little kids to sew for, you should find things that take your fancy. But those errors and lack of diagrams are frustrating, so be prepared to read through the instructions carefully and double check everything.

5.0 out of 5 stars One yard Wonders: 101 Fabulous Fabric Projects 20 July 2010
Format:Hardcover-spiral|Verified Purchase
This is a really useful book. If you have a guilty stash of fabric that you have bought a metre of here and there because it was so beautiful you couldn't resist, this is the book for you. I have made the summer nightie and shorts, the beach time towel tote, hot and cold pack, have orders for the dinosaur toy, CD holder and laptop sleeve, I can see I shall be busy this summer! It also has some quite cute ideas such as the craft apron that turns into a small tote and the bedside pocket. Some of these will be very quick to make, others may take a bit longer, lots of choice for the new sewer as well as more complex things for the experienced one, but plenty of great ideas that can be adapted too.

Full size tissue patterns in a pocket in the front and practical spiral binding so the book stays open on the page you are using and clear and precise instructions.

Really great buy, I shall enjoy using this book!

Nice looking book. Full of simple projects, nothing I haven't seen before though. I would still recomment this book because it is very well presented and contains full size patterns which is a must in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars You get more than enough for your money! 31 Mar 2011
Format:Hardcover-spiral
This book is really really good. It includes MANY simple, well illustrated and practical projects that you can indeed make with only one meter of fabric. Beware though: some of the projects require much more than this yard of fabric (e.g. interfacing, which can make it much more costly) but the book more than makes up for it with other projects that will keep you busy. I have many books like this, and I can honestly say this provides the simplest and easiest patterns and instructions for the same projects (e.g. a pocket for the side of your bed to keep your glasses, which I also saw in A. Butler's book in a waaaaay more complicated form). Also, it provides patterns for most of the projects, which you just cut out from the paper (no complicated patterns over patterns). A must-have!
