Book Description

1 April 2004
Stunning watercolours illustrate this magnificent book about the threat of pollution to our environment, particularly the seashore.

The children create their own tiny marine world in a bucket at the seaside and, with its wildlife, shells, oil and even a tin can, it is a microcosm of the bigger world outside.

Review

"Michael Foreman has a flair for turning a book into a special occasion." (Quentin Blake)

"An important book" (The School Librarian)

"No less an impressive statement for being a work of art . . . Foreman's magical blues and yellows and the indefinite lines of his drawing underline the symbolic message . . . A quietly disturbing book this, which I fancy children will help their parents to understand." (The Junior Bookshelf)

"Foreman's characteristically spacious composition and subtly graded washes are in close harmony with his theme of the vastness and fragility of the natural world." (TLS)

"I can't praise One World enough . . . a wonderful thought provoking book about just how fragile our planet can be." (The Bookbag) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars One World 11 Aug 2007
Format:Paperback
As a teacher and one that is passionate about environmental issues, I'm always looking for books that gently get the message across to our children. This is one such book. It left me with a smile on my face. I would imagine that after reading this, children will be eager to get to the beach and follow the actions of the two children in the book. It will, hopefully, make them look at the world with more understanding about our effects on it and encourage them to be more caring. The words are gentle and the watercolour pictures make you feel that you are there - a part of the story. Suitable for primary children.
