Product Description

'I hired you as a novelty, an attraction, the most notorious woman in London...' London July 1813. Once the toast of the ton, Lottie Cummings is now notorious for being divorced - and without a penny. Shunned by society the destitute beauty is forced to become a Covent Garden courtesan. Refusing to oblige her customers, Lottie's about to be turned out onto the streets Until a dangerous rake saves her with a scandalous offer. The illegitimate son of a Duke, Ethan Ryder rose to the ranks of Napoleon's most trusted cavalry officer - until his capture landed him in England as prisoner of war. Now on parole, Ethan is planning his most audacious coup yet. But he needs to create a spectacular diversion. And having infamous Lottie as his mistress will lull everyone into thinking he's busily bedding her instead of plotting deadly treason...

One Wicked Sin 22 Nov 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is the second book in Nicola Cornicks The Scandalous Women of the Ton series, coming after Whisper of Scandal (MIRA), where we meet Lottie, the heroine of this book for the first time. She is different to typical romance heroines, she is selfish, money and society focused. However, Ethan is not the typical Hero. He is a Prisoner of war, in a small village in oxfordshire, after being captured whilst fighting for Napoleon, against the english. Their story is not the typical romance either. They first meet when Ethan visits the brothel Lottie has been reduced to working in, and hires her to become his mistress.

I really enjoyed this book. It was completely different to all other historical romances I've read. Instead of a relationship between two high up members of the ton, Lottie and Ethan are both outcasts, the ex-society-darling, and the traitor. And yet their story is also one of the sweetest and loveliest ones I have read. The ending had me on the edge of my seat with suspence, wondering would it be a happy ending, or a tragedy. One Wicked Sin really stood out for me, and I would recomend it to anyone, especially if you are looking for a historical romance a little bit different.

Above average romance with an older heroine 14 Dec 2010
By Orion - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
It seems like so many romance novels feature an 18-year-old virgin, it's nice to read a book about a woman who's been around a bit. Lottie is experienced, even loose, and she was doing well in society until she got a bit too careless and was cast off by her husband. She finds herself in dire straits, but then she is rescued by Ethan, who offers to make her his mistress. Both Lottie and Ethan enter into the relationship as a business deal, and neither one wants to admit they are developing feelings for the other.

Ethan is a prisoner of war, and he is involved in traitorous schemes. Lottie is torn over whether to get involved. Mostly, though, she just resents that she is falling in love with him faster than he is falling in love with her. My favorite scene was the masked ball at Lottie's ex-husband's house, where Lottie gets some subtle and humorous revenge, and then rescues Ethan from British soldiers.

There is a bit of excitement, a bit of intrigue, and it all works out in the end, just as you would expect it to. A good offering from a good author.

Take your breath away romance 25 Nov 2010
By Mary J. Gramlich - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Lottie was an embarrassment to her family when she was a Palliser and a total humiliation as a Cummings. But Lottie was always truthful with herself and even when everyone including family, husband and the ton threw her out on the streets she knew somehow she would survive. Her ex-husband was the liar, the ton hypocritical and her family vicious but still Lottie figured out what she was good at and went from there.

But it turned out what Lottie liked and was good at as a married woman was not as pleasing when she had to use her body to make money. So when Ethan Ryder, Baron St. Severin proposes that she be his mistress during his unfortunate time of imprisonment she packed up and ran off with him. Ethan had not chosen to be born illegitimate but he did choose to fight with Napoleon against the English so being captured as a prisoner of war was less that acceptable. But being a prisoner of war during this particular time meant house arrest and keeping a mistress completely acceptable and Lottie was a joy to be suffering through all this with.

Lottie turns out to be a complete surprise to Ethan in that he never thought to like her let alone come to love her but she did have a way about herself that drew him in and made him want to possess every beautiful inch of her. They both liked the dangerous side to life and taking risks was something they also shared so keeping secrets was nothing new to either of them. Yet the secrets they were keeping from each other were dangerous and at times treasonous but the two of them cared little for the punishment as long as they were together which proved its own reward.

The English are playing games with Ethan which can turn deadly but Lottie realizes she knows what side to stand with she just has to convince Ethan she is there because of love not obligation. Ethan and Lottie both have tried for too long to please everyone it is time to scrap that plan and go with pleasing each other as well as themselves and the heck with the consequences.

After I finished Whisper of Scandal which is Book 1 in this series I truly had no idea how Nicola Cornick was going to top that book romance wise as well as story wise. But she has done so with this one. Ethan is the ultimate alpha male who is spy savvy but a romance warrior. Lottie is a woman who has seen too much of life's dark side but still glows with the radiance of knowing there is love after all you just have to find it. When these two get together the romance abounds and the end of this book truly will have you closing your eyes and dreaming of what man you would like to float in the clouds with!

A Slightly Naughty Twist on the Typical Tale 5 Jan 2011
By C. Klaassen - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
So often historical romance novels feature the 18 - 28 year old misunderstood virgin, the heroic but damaged nobleman and a fight to find love while acting in service of the British Empire. This book certainly shatters the form. Our "heroine" (Lottie) is a new-to-the-game 33-year-old courtesan. Lottie's husband divorced her and her family disowned her after her many affairs became a bit too publicly scandalous. Our "hero" (Ethan) is a genteel British prisoner being the illegitimate son of a randy Irish Duke. His loyalty is to the French Republic and his acts are in service of Old Bony and not good King George. Ethan seeks Lottie out in the brothel where she is serving men who used to vie for, rather than pay for, her services. He needs a woman of her caliber to serve as a distraction while he hatches some sort of great escape. (The details really do not matter.) In most other novels these two would most certainly contend for the role of villain-in-chef. They are self-absorbed, vain, and seemingly without conscience. (Lottie more so than Ethan it must be said.) Life has taught them to trust no one and to act in their own self-interest.

In the beginning it really is hard to like these two, particularly Lottie. But as the story progresses they become more naughty fun and less serious menace. The author does a good job of blending heart-warming scenes with ridiculousness. There is a bit of intrigue, some mild action and a grand ball thrown in for good measure. A satisfying light read on a cold winters night!

Recommended for fans of light historical romance.
