5.0 out of 5 stars Not their best? 1 Sep 2005
Format:Audio CD
This is the only levellers album I own, and personally I think it is fantastic. So if this is in reality a collection of the more mediocre songs as some reviewers have said, the other albums must be absolutely extraordinary :D

3.0 out of 5 stars Best Of? I dont think so! 12 Jun 2003
Format:Audio CD
Ok lets set the record straight, this compilation is called the 'best of the levellers' a tag which I would dispute, and im sure the band and the vast majority of fans would have trouble agreeing with. With the use of hindsight, im sure the band would love to have named it something like 'singles '90 - '98' but they didnt, so for the benefit of anyone new to the Levellers this album is not the place to start!
1. One Way (5/10) - This is a re-recording of the classic song and although it sounds better it just seems to lake the energy of the original.
2. Beautiful Day (6/10) - Many fans hate this song for its commercial sound, i think it served a purpose, but its all some people know of the band, which is sad, a good sing along none the less
3. Fifteen Years (9/10) - Arguably their best song and, as far as im aware their best selling single, a real grower, true magic!
4. Shadow on the Sun (2/10) - should have been a b-side, at best, one of the original tracks on the LP, trundles along and never really gets anywhere
5. Hope Street (6/10) Good Single, again a grower, not my favorate though.
6. Belaruse (4/10) This single came from the self titled 3rd Lp (the bands worst)
7. Celebrate (6/10) A lovely little song about love ahhh
8. Too Real (8/10) One of their best, takes a few listens to sink in but one of their most intelligent songs, spoilt only on this disk by being the 12inch version, which seems like it will never finish!
9. Bozos (4/10) The second song unique to this Lp, bizzare use of techno type beats. Odd.
10. This Garden (6/10) Spoken lyric verses nice chorus. Different from the typic levellers track.
11. Carry Me (10/10) Excellent song, re-recording takes nothing away. Brilliant.
12.

'One Way of Life' by The Levellers is a greatest hits album which portrays the band perfectly. With hits such as 'Beautiful Day' and 'Hope Street' you are able to chill, rock, and let every emotion you've ever known pound out from your system. This is the CD for every mood, an excellent choice and a must for everyone, especially folk/rock fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent collection of hits! 28 Sep 2013
By ReviewBlog51 TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
If you are seeking a collection of The Levellers' biggest radio friendly hit singles from their commercial peak in the 90s', 'One Way Of Life - The Best Of' fits that criteria.

The album collects together 16 chart successes, and is perfect for the newbie fan or the casual listener. To bigger fans like myself, the real gems can be found on the studio albums (in particular, their masterpiece Levelling the Land). This is certainly more 'greatest hits' than a 'best of', and if you enjoy the music here, I recommend that you purchase a few of the studio albums to be able to fully appreciate the Levellers.

Despite it essentially being a collection of the obvious tracks, what you have here is still a rather interesting release, as some songs appear as remixes ('Hope Street') or re-recordings (the indie anthem 'One Way' sounds excellent), mixed in with the original single versions (including my personal favourite - 'Fifteen Years').

If you need just one Levellers album in your collection (which you should do as they are first class), you've found it here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Superb 30 July 2002
By Rob
Format:Audio CD
I 1st heard this band live at distortion in Nottingham in the summer of 2002 and i went out and bought this album instantly! With a mix of guiter, violin and even digerido sounds the levellers are one of the most unique bands around! They appeal to all different age groups and generations! I myself a 17 yr old lad brought up listenin to bands around now love them, my father a 52 yr old hippy brought up in the hendrix, dylan, beatles generation is a big fan and a friend from work in his early 30s a big thrash metal fan and also a goth thinks they r great! This album is a perfect for chillin out and if u love rock, indie, metal or anything wiv a similar sound u r sure to love the levellers, who r best described as Britains best acoustic punk band!! How many bands r described like that!?!? My advice is buy it or never no the true greatness of this band!
