Book Review:

Four kids sent to the country for school holidays for some and intense long term boredom for others. This group very adequately named "the Mizfits" don't look forward to this holiday but there is a mystery here. Fortunately Ben with his sister, half-sister and Freaky Frank, by chance get the opportunity to find a thief who eats strawberries, a farmer who seems to roam around with a loaded gun and a mysterious cave. These are all opportunities for exploration and Ben has to persuade his mother and convince his siblings that the mystery must be solved. In pursuit of the thief there is real danger and then they have to deal with the mishaps when they fall into hidden fields. Mothers don't support their children in risky adventures - and this looks like an adventure that is very risky.

What kind of burglar picks all the strawberries I the dead of night? Well there is much more to come and the secrets become stranger when they find their way into the hidden quarry and we all know the dangers that can befall us in pits and caves. Fortunately the Mizfits manage to survive - but in some cases only just.

The "One that got away" is written to appeal to age groups from eight or nine, for good readers, to thirteen or fourteen year olds. It has inbuilt tension with the adventure well contained in short chapters and a comfortable language level. The book will be loved by children who enjoy the unraveling of a mystery and reading novels such as this will lead the readers into more advanced mystery stories.

This is a 5 star book and will bring much pleasure to its readers.
