I bought a copy of this yesterday after reading some great reviews and... it really did live up to my expectations. I can't speak highly enough of the opening track 'What Yesterday Brings', the kind of song that I hoped Richard Ashcroft would write and then the album takes you on a journey through musical history while always sounding fresh and new. Sunlight Song is my other favourite - one that will be on the stereo all summer. I recommend this to anyone - Adam Masterson looks like the kind of young, British talent that we've all been waiting for.

I first heard Masterson on the cover CD of Uncut magazine and was so impressed i wanted some more.So out i went and bought One Tale Too Many.To say i found it to be awesome is a massive understatement.I don't think Britain has had an artist who can tell stories in their songs like say Dylan and Springsteen.Well we have now.This is a near perfect album with its beautiful soft sound and its stunning lyrics.Its one for the lost romantics you can't really listen to this with more than one person in the room as it loses its edge.But thats not a bad point.
It starts off with the soft sound of What Yesterday Brings which though soft sounding is a real stand out track.And the album moves on leaving you to imagine pictures and feeling serenity,passion and romance at the same time.We'll Go Walking is perhaps the weakest song on the album but even that grows on you to the point that you realise just how good a record this is.And Same Sad Story is awesome.Its in my mind the loudest song on the album but even then it appears soft.However my personal favourite is Into Nowhere Land.Its the ultimate story song,and as it goes on you become part of the journey of the two lovers and you can picture the words in the song.It is absolutely stunning from start to finish and the saxophone at the end concludes it in style.To be honest words can't describe how i feel about this song.There aren't enough superlatives in the dictionary.
So in conclusion what you've got is a soft sweet album filled with awe inspiring lyrics and a sound to die for.Adam Masterson has made a superb debut album which should serve as a masterclass in song writing to all the other British songwriters.Cos thats what this album is.

I purchased this album after hearing an acoustic session by Adam on the radio. Masterson's voice is gentle where it needs to be, but has enough power to deliver on those songs that require it. The album is an acoustic delight, 6 string, acoustic bass and cello - the odd keyboard moment thrown in for good measure. "Sunlight Song" has to be the stand out track - a summer lament that had me reaching for the "Repeat" button. A little over-produced in places and definately one track too short - the great sounds of the singer and his band are over far too soon and I couldn't help but think that there was so much more he could have offered as he clearly is a talented lyricist.

A Joy...
