More About the Author

Jaci Burton is a USA Today and New York Times bestselling author who lives in Oklahoma with her husband and dogs. She has three grown children, who are all scattered around the country having lives of their own. A lover of sports, Jaci can often tell what season it is by what sport is being played. She watches entirely too much television, including an unhealthy amount of reality TV. When she isn't on deadline, Jaci can be found at her local casino, trying to become a millionaire (so far, no luck). She's a total romantic and loves a story with a happily ever after, which you'll find in all her books.

Come on jaci burton 8.43 for a book and its the same as the previous few, a ok story, great cover, and hot sex scenes , but the story is the same nothing new no twists turns or excitement, if you are gonna be charging this for a book please can I feel like I have spent my money well instead of feeling ripped off, I was a huge fan of this series but it needs a shake up

The plot was okay but my trouble with Jaci Burton is that I can't help but notice how amateurish a lot of her writing is when compared with other contemporary romance writers. There are sections which feel very fanfictiony, especially when there's like 3 love scenes in a row.

jaci burton's books have often been an auto-buy for me, but the last couple of offerings from this author just have not been up to the standard of some of her earlier works.
this book was definately an improvement on the previous book in this series, but was still lacking in places.
i liked the characters, but there just wasnt much drama (though there is more in this book than the last).i have found that these books have got highly predictable throughout the course of this series.they just seem to be poor substitutes of what this author is more than capable of.
i have to say the sex scenes were fairly hot, though they seem to follow trend throughout the book (a bit more variety would be good, after all variety is the spice of life!!)
overall, for the price of the book its just not worth it.there are far better books out there with better stories and that are better value for money.i definately wont be paying full price for this authors books in the future.i cant recommend this one,as well as this series in general.i suggest that if your new to this authors work you take a look at her other books first.i must also add that this book could be read as a stand alone,it barely mentions anyone from the previous books and they have practically no standing on this story. * 3.5 stars *
however, if you do want to read this series, the series order is:
1.the perfect play
2.changing the game
3.taking a shot
4.playing to win
5.thrown by a curve
6.on sweet ride
7.melting the ice (due out approx february 2014)

One Sweet Ride, A Review for the Blog Bodice Rippers, Femme Fatales and Fantasy 9 Jun. 2013

Jaci Burton is taking her sports themed series away from the Riley family and amongst friends.. Another author taking us into a subseries (my new word) But let me tell you, this book holds true to Jaci's sports themed series and sizzles.. (trying to think of a race car analogy but am totally lost..)

One Sweet Ride is book five in Ms. Burton's Play by Play series and each one seems to be better than the last. As a girl who grew up in a sports centered household, I get a total kick out of these individuals.. people who seem to have a love and passion for the sports around them. It's fun to put strong women in an atmosphere that is traditionally run by men and the world of NASCAR is at the top of that list!!

Evelyn Hill is smart, sexy and oh so smooth.. she has a job to do and no one and no thing is going to stop her. So when she enters the world of NASCAR to convince her boss' estranged son to step back into the fold she is stunned when he turns her down and walks away.. Not a woman to let something like the word no, get in her way.. Evelyn calls in the big brass (mom) and before she knows it her engines are running and she has no clue how to stop this ride.

Gray Preston walked away from his father when he was forced to choose between the life he wanted and the life his father wanted for him. Years later he hasn't forgiven the man and no way is he going to go on the campaign trail no matter how attracted he is to his father's aide. Life is complicated enough on the NASCAR circuit and no way does he want to let the man who disowned him use the life he has created for his benefit (a lot of pronouns there.. he one.. Gray, him... Gray, he two...Gray, his Dear old Dad)

Sweltering, sensuous sensation!! family dynamics and careers collide! What a great story.. love comes in so many different forms and to watch a couple come together in such dynamic situation was simply fabulous. Gray has so much to learn about life and forgiveness, can he manage to forgive his father and discover the man he has become? Can Evelyn find a way to love Gray without destroying her career? Can either of them figure out that they need to work together and compromise?

These two are both the go big or stay at home types.. that means grand gestures and fun stuff.. but they don't always listen to each other and their hearts.. Jaci is writing a beautiful series here and one worth spending some time with.. Even if you don't enjoy sports.. every woman has a secret crush on at least one athlete.. admit it...

A little too much and yet not enough... 6 Jun. 2013

I have been waiting for the next book in this series to come out. I have read the entire series except for the first book and I have really enjoyed them all. I found One Sweet Ride to have a great concept (I love fast cars!!!) but 2 things really got to me. 1... is I felt you could do so much more with the characters. Especially since we were previously introduced to Gray and there are a lot of connections to be made. I would have liked Gray to ask more questions about Evelyn especially her childhood. The book dove into Gray which I like but I didn't feel it was reciprocated. Possibly even more interaction with Evelyn, Gray, and his whole family. We got his dad's view but nothing from his mom which was interesting since you were led to believe both Evelyn and Gray were close with her and she was the matriarch. 2... I felt like every chapter had a sex scene which got to be too much. Instead of adding to the book, I felt like you lost something in the storyline. While I liked the hints at future characters and story lines, I again felt that it was too much on the surface (just thrown in) and we could have done without them. They actually made the women sound immature and childish, holding on to grudges. I am still really looking forward to Drew and Carolina's story even though I didn't connect with Once Sweet Ride!!

One sweet disappointment! 6 Sept. 2013
By DRC - Published on Amazon.com

I have been waiting for the next book in this series to come out for a while.
And after Gray's introduction in previous books in the series, I had high hopes for his story.

I just don't understand how you can so totally mess up such a great concept!

The characters fell flat. I think Gray had more "character" in the brief glimpses we had of him in previous books than he does in this book.

And Evelyn. I felt nothing for her at all. And she really jumped into sex with Gray like it was her occupation, not like she was totally in love with him.

All they ever did was have sex. Even for a book where you expect a lot of sex.

But what REALLY made me dislike this book was when Gray took Evelyn to NY for the "first time". WHAT?
Who goes to college @ Georgetown, works in DC for a SENATOR, travels the country extensively for political campaigns, and has NEVER been to NYC? Who? Who!!!!

Jaci delivers and then some 5 Jun. 2013

"...Jaci delivers and then some." ~Under the Covers

I've been anxiously awaiting Gray's story since he appeared in THROWN BY A CURVE. Why? Well, the stock car driver thing for one. Having read a whole series (by Erin McCarthy) that centers around that sport, I already had a soft spot for that. I couldn't wait to see what Jaci would do. And as always, Jaci delivers and then some.

ONE SWEET RIDE is not just the story of a stock car driver. There are so many layers to Gray that we get to slowly see. His father is a politician so there's a lot of that in this book as well. Especially when Evelyn turns out to be working for his father's campaign and assigned to get the problematic son on board with supporting his dad and doing some media promo for the campaign.

Gray and his father have issues. Issues that come from Gray following his dreams in what appeared to be (and was for a while) against his dad's wishes. Their relationship is strained to say the least.

When sexy Evelyn is basically glued to his side to help work with him in his dad's best interest (she works for him after all) he's very conflicted. He wants her more than any other woman, but he also admires her ambition and drive. However, she's so deep in a world that has left a sour taste in his mouth for a long time.

Gray was absolutely delicious! I don't know if he will take any top spot for fave hero in this series but he is definitely hot and sweet. Loyal to his friends and family. Respectful and supportive of his tough girl as well. He doesn't try to keep Evelyn down, but lets her fly and reach for her dreams. Even when that means less time for him or a harder relationship to handle.

This book again brings back the feel of "family" by way of the friendship between this new group of guys. Gray and his friends are like a family and their interactions feel much like the Riley family used to feel. I look forward to their easy banter and the way they relate to each other. They may tease one another but in the end they'll be there no matter what. I cannot wait to read more of that.

This book also gives us glimpses into the next two heroes and let me tell you....I AM DYING to get my paws on both! *ehem* The books, I mean, of course.

Hot in the sheets and funny in the banter. My favorite combo! 25 Jun. 2013

Burton has done it again ya'll. This time on the race track. Fun, sexy and lovable those are words that immediately come to mind after reading One Sweet Ride. It was just as the title stated.

Gray, a put together man all his own meets his match with Evelyn. A woman that works for his fathers campaign. Currently in a bid for vice president Gray's father has never been there for him growing up. Gray only sees in Evelyn another tool of his fathers to gain votes. Votes from all his NASCAR fans.

Evelyn, aid for a VP candidate has a job to do. Getting Gray Preston to help promote his father. Using social media to hype up their relationship. Little does Gray know it wasn't dear old dad's idea. Dad has changed and Evelyn doesn't see the same man Gray does. Gray need to figure that out on his own though.

In Burton style these two heat up the pages. They are hot in the sheets and funny in the banter. My favorite combo in this genre!
