Product Description

Product Description

'A truly stunning account of his life and near death.... Everyone should read this book... it is the story of a hero' - John Nichol, co-author of Tornado Down --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Book Description

'Chris Moon knows about tough' - The Times 'This man is a hero for our times' - Daily Mail While supervising mine-clearance in Mozamique in 1995, Chris Moon was blown up in the supposedly clear area of the safety lane. He lost his lower right leg and right arm and survived only through sheer determination. Less than a year after leaving hospital, he ran the London Marathon, raising money for charities assisting the disabled, defying all expectations for his own future. He has since completed more than fifteen other marathons, including the punishing Marathon des Sables, which is a 137 mile race across the Sahara. One Step Beyond is Chris Moon's story so far. He has led a life of remarkable experiences, from being one of the few people to survive kidnap by the Khmer Rouge, to running the final stage of the Olympic torch relay to Nagano for the opening of the 18th Winter Olympics in 1998. Chris Moon writes with wit and charm, passion and belief, and his tale is truly one of adventure, romance and inspiration. 'An inspiring book written by a very brave and modest man' - Richard Branson 'A wonderful read replete with humour and honesty' - Steve Cram 'This powerful book will give you an insight into Chris Moon and, like me, you will feel humbled in his presence' - Tracey Edwards --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

On June 21 1994, my son Master corporal Mark R Isfeld was killed in Kakma, croatia, removing landmines with the Canadian Military Engineers.

I subsequently met Chris Moon several times in the course of activity surrounding the campaign to Ban Landmines, and as a member of the Landmine Survivors Network.

Having known Chris, and now having read the account of his adventures in the book, I can assure you that you are in for some interesting accounts from a very interesting and dynamic person.

From the depths of Cambodia as a prisoner of the Khmer Rouge, to the almost surrealistic "step by step" account of his encounter with a landmine that took his foot and hand, and nearly his life, to the awe-inspiring challenge of running in the London marathon less than a year after he lost these limbs, this book will satisfy even the reader without an interest in the landmine phenomenon to the utmost, giving an insight into a heroic and dedicated individual who has experienced both the joy and horrors of life as few individuals have experienced them. In many ways, he reminds me of my son, who, given the chance at life, would have been proud, as I am, to have called Chris Moon his Friend.

I was moved to read Chris Moon's book after seeing him on Parky's TV show. What a true inspiration he is, how can any of us who haven't been through such trauma ever complain again?! What I want to know now is was he like this BEFORE the mine or did the experience change him into this truly humble and positive person? Whatever - it is a book which everyone guilty of succumbing to the "stresses" of modern life should read. Then go figure!

An inspirational read 1 July 2000
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This enthralling often harrowing book is a source of inspiration for anyone. Chris Moon, a hero by anyone's standards recounts his capture by and escape from the Khmer Rouge as well as the devastation of being blown up by a landmine. His positive, never say die attitude despite all the adversity shouts out from almost every page. But it doesn't stop there - Chris's determination to overcome his disabilities has resulted in achievements that many so called able bodied people would shy away from. If you feel that life is sometimes to much to bear then read this book.
