I was only recently introduced to Gabe Dixon by Jamie Cullum's radio show and loved every minute. Beautiful melodies and guaranteed to get into your head. 'Strike' is a great first song which really draws you into the rest of the tracks. 'Running on fumes' is also another of my favourites. Overall, some lovely syncopations and rhythms combined with delicious chord sequences and great voice, piano playing and lyrics

One Spark is the debut album from former Paul McCartney keyboardist and Supertramp member, Gabe Dixon.
The album boasts an impressive line of co-writers and collaborators. Gabe drafted in members of Snow Patrol and Deacon Blue to help pen some tracks, and he is joined on the album by Alison Kraus, Dan Wilson and Tia Sillers.
The album kicks off well Strike, a catchy, mature piano-pop number. Unfortunately the rest of the album does not live up to the opener.
Even the Rain, with blues grass legend Krauss, promises much but fails to live up to the hype as it meanders towards a cliché love letter and Running on Fumes is a bland summer romp.
There are some redeeming moments, notably on Lucky to be Lost, a McCartney-esque, scaled back pop number.
The musicianship is cultured and accomplished, especially his tickling of the ivories, which will have you toe-tapping along.
But the song-writing is cringe worthy and bland for the most part. This is probably due to the sheer amount of collaborators on the project, which leaves the album feeling disjointed.

With thousands of albums vying to be heard I feel that just leaving a comment should mean that this one is worth checking out at least.
I was not surprised to find that Gabe Dixon had played for Paul McCartney as at times he sounds quite like him. Well, sometimes he structures songs and sings a bit like an earlier version. The Wings version to be precise and for me that was the best version. So, if you miss the toe tapping sounds of the more poppy Macca then give Gabe a try.
If you like Josh Rouse or Coldplay (he sometimes sounds a bit like them too) give Gabe a try . If you want a nice little album your mates won't have and your girlfriend won't dislike, then give Gabe a try.
