I liked the plot of the book, following the hunt for Chevy Bankes as he continues his murderous spree across the US, fuelled by a lust for revenge against the woman who got away from him seven years earlier until he ultimately arrives at her door. The twisting thread of the disfigured dolls was pretty creepy and the story in itself was gripping but what I really disliked about this book (hence 3 stars) was the relationship between the two main protagonists which I felt was completely unbelievable.
At the opening Sheridan is in bed with someone he barely knows and could care less about. He is the tough, burnt-out ex-FBI agent, with loads of personal baggage but within a very unrealistic space of time, he's seriously involved with Beth Dennison and her child. I found the constant endearments "honey" and "sweetheart" that he calls her annoying and detracted from the enjoyment of the story unfolding. The same with his over-the-top relationship with Abby - ("sweet pea", "baby"). It just seemed unnecessary and distracting to force the relationships which should have developed more slowly, especially as Beth has such a wary, hidden character because of her past.
Aside from that...not a bad book and I'll give the second one a go hoping for better.

A romance crime thriller and one that will more than likely win Kate fans the world over as it's a beautiful piece of fiction. Overall the main cut and thrust of the tale is about the serial killer on the principle protagonista's tale and whilst the romantic sub plot is there, its used to help lull and sooth the reader after moments of high tension and action. It is a cleverly conceived plot with characters that gel within the readers imagination and whilst they both have their weaknesses it only goes to show how together a pairing can be made stronger. A tale I was more than satisfied with by its conclusion and one that I'm more than happy to recommend to readers.

Really started to get into this book at the beginning however the two main characters Neil and Beth really grated on me.

Neil was made out to 'be this possessive madman and Beth this silly love struck woman who fell for this man after knowing him for 20 minutes!!!! Really hard to like the characters and there cliches!

This is the first book I have read from this author and I purchased it by mistake. One of my best mistakes. If you love Lisa Gardner, Tess Gerritsen etc you will also love this author.
