5.0 out of 5 stars A totally inspired Gem. Buy it now!, 1 April 2006
By michael (Sheffield, South Yorkshire, UK) - See all my reviews
I believe sadly this was A.C.Marias' only Cd, but would be delighted to be corrected. Mute have always taken the risk and given opportunities to very talented and diverse musicians. A.C.Marias fit this bill perfectly. Precise delicate, and unforgetably atmospheric. I have literally thousands of CD's, being slightly obsessive, and a tad on the autistic/asperger's syndrome spectrum, but this album is one of a kind. The only musician's even close to creating the fragility and beauty of this haunting album are Julee Cruise, Antony and the Johnsonsand This mortal Coil. The title track etched itself upon my psyche instantly. An unspoken classic. I only recently was able to purchase the cd version, and was delighted that there was an additional track, 'Time Was'. If you ever saw the video for the title track, you'd never of forgotten it. Crystalline, eery and delicate production, well worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless and sublime - every bit as good as the myth..., 21 April 2007
AC Marias was the name adopted for this one-off album project by filmmaker and photographer Angela Conway, best known for her work with many Mute artists and Maria McKee. The album centres on Angela's fragile but ethereal vocals, and musically she is supported by the likes of Wire's Bruce Gilbert. At the time of its release in 1989, what made such an impression were the videos for "Triby's Couch" and the title track. If you regulary watched indie music show "Snub TV" in those days then the chances are you remember these videos. Directed by and featuring Conway herself, they were stunning, ethereal classics that for me easily rank as the best videos of their era. The album itself is still wonderful, but when I hear those tracks it is the enduring imagery of the videos that renders them so important to me.
