I have been desperate for the DVD of the movie to appear.
The film is the best laugh that I have had in ages, the humour is so subtle but basic, it is really good for a gang of friends around the TV with a few bottles of wine,
The photography of the Newcastle scenery is breathtaking, the screenplay is so funny, and the characters so real.
It comes from the same stable as East to East, so if you enjoyed that, please buy the DVD !!!

Brilliant film about the unpredictability of relationships, falling in love at first sight, friendship and sex in supermarkets. Patsy Kensit in a comedy role (and surprisingly good at it! ), Justine Waddell as a fragile WAG and Richard Roxbrough dishing out the Northern charm as a kitchen fitter with a heart. Uplifting and fabulous for an evening in....And it has the best dance sequence on film - guaranteed to get your feet tapping and shaking your tushie in the living room!

A wonderfully gentle, humorous and touching production with glorious views of Tyneside. Thought the film represented the early 1980s at first. The humour was excellent and cleverley mixed.
Brought tears to my eyes. Fell in love with Stevie immediately. The acting seemed natural and impressive. Justine waddell was superb- She definitely is 'The one and only'!

Will watch it time and time again. Highly recommended.

Forget Sliding Doors (sorry Gwynnie) and Love Actually (did we believe in Colin Frizzell from Basildon? NO!) THIS is the best British Romantic Comedy of the last ten years. The storyline is real, the characters are three dimensional and the Newcastle skylines (incl. the Angel of the North) are just wonderful. "Our Friends from the North" meets "When Harry Met Sally" I wept *buckets*.. a "must see" for anyone who has a heart.

At last, a chance to see Richard Roxburgh as something other than a villan, and 'name above title'. This film is a great vehicle for his talent. He's funny, charming, angsty and romantic; as is the film. The Italian footballer had me cracking up with laughter. A good vehicle for Newcastle.
Although I bought the film primarily because Roxburgh is it's star and I'm a fan of this under rated actor, I completely enjoyed it. Give yourself a treat and watch this film.

I lent this DVD to somebody a year or so ago and never got it back ... that also says a lot about the film! I found the acting really good, even better than in the Danish original ("Den eneste Ene"). The English version is not quite the same as the original story, but I can see why the slight changes were made (no details, don't want to spoil things if you've not seen the film yet!) OK, purists could object to the not-quite-Newcastle accents, but on the other hand they are treated to an amazing fake Italian accent from "Sonny", the footballing Lothario. One of those films which you can watch again and again, a shame it wasn't better appreciated by the critics.
Get it while you can!
