this book starts out good but then by the time you get to the middle it goes down hill. the two main chacters only spent one night together that resulted in thier little girl. then all of a sudden the female lead is in love with the male lead even thought they have only ever spent three days together. she says that no matter what he does to her she will laways love him. she thinks this while he is trying to gain sole custody of thie daughter and calling her an unfit mother. another annoying thing is that the female leads famliy members seem to be as dumb as a box of rocks. what is it with the women in these books thinking that the man always holds all of the power and that they have no legal rights where thier kids are concerned which lets the men steam roll right over them. this book was so irritating in the middle that i was tempted to put it down. thecharcters are likeable by the end of the book but i felt that changed way to quickly and perhaps the female lead didnt change at all. if you have nothing better to read then read this but otherwise i wouldnt bother. the only positive thing i can say is that the male lead was cute with his kid.

1.0 out of 5 stars so lame & ridiculous, 9 Jun 2010

Heroine has a secret child from an implusive 1-night stand with Hero 5 yrs ago. She now dresses in a dowdy & staid fashion & Hero thinks it's just an act & suspects heroine is hiding something. Hero eventually finds out about his daughter by accident & becomes resentful of her & seeks full custody of their child. Heroine, on the otherhand, feels confused & helpless that Hero would be so angry with her & try to take their child away from her.

I don't know if this is how Stephens typically writes but this book is just BAD. The dialogue & plot is like a condensed soap opera with inconsistent characterization of Hero & heroine. For example, heroine is portrayed as an independent & capable person then a few pages later she's acting & thinking like a TSTL heroine. In another one, Hero can't stand heroine b/c he thinks she selfish & manipulative then next thing you know he's in love with her (?!). Although there's a lot of drama in this book, it didn't engage my emotions...in a good way. I just did a LOT of eye rolling. Sexual chemistry & romance were lacking. The brief love scenes seemed out of place.

Don't read this drivel.
