On hearing that Michael Jackson was releasing another Greatest Hits compilation to complete his contractual obligations to Sony, i must say i was rather disappointed. On hearing the new track that will appear on 'Number Ones' i must say i am very impressed. Where 'Invicible' seemed like a desperate attempt by Jackson to prove he could still produce an up-to date sound, 'One More Chance' is a single where Michael goes back to basics, and frankly does the business. The soft sweeping melody is interlaced with an excellent vocal performance, and both compliment each other magnificently. Although established Jackson fans may yearn for an upbeat sound to rival Billie Jean, Bad or Beat It, i think that this single is a clever and sensible start of what seems to be a re-building process for Michael Jackson. It is important to remember that the type of sound engineered for Michael by Quincy Jones has evolved, not disappeared. This kind of sound is one which may remind fans of 'Human Nature' from 'Thriller. With a completely new regime in place in the MJJ Productions camp, it seems that Michael is finally happy to shake of the success of 'Thriller', and come up with a record in 2004 that is full of well produced, harmony driven music to influence pop music culture all over again.
