Worn out your Al Green records?

This is a marvelous album that reminds you of classic soul, ala Al Green and the Memphis Stax sound, without sounding retro or dated. McClain has a commanding voice, writes great songs, and can assemble a fine band. "Mighty" is right.

Mighty Sam brings lyrics, rhythm, style, and guitar artistry together in a way that only a true blues man can do. One easily hears the influences of his early life in Louisiana filtered through soulful blues lenses. His songs involve emotional, relational struggles as one might expect of Sam MCClain. But he mixes in so many hopeful, inspirational, and even spiritual overtones into this repertoire. This CD grows on me each and every time I've listened to it. If you love the blues, and love it sung with heart and soul, you'll want to have this in your library.

Pure Blue-Soul at its finest!

I see a W.C. Handy later this year for this new CD. Much better, more varied
(Soul with a big band sound, Funk and R&B too) than his last with Telarc,
"Sweet Dreams". The songs "cook" slowly, ooze Soul and grab you in bit by
bit, is what makes it stand out. This one is self produced and think this
made a huge difference in the liberty to be more creative in the studio and
with the music. 9 of the 13 tracks are already favorites. Simon Aguilar, KYNR Crazy Coyote Blues
(Soul with a big band sound, Funk and R&B too) than his last with Telarc,
