Want to relive the past? For heaven's sake, learn restraint. Don't mar your production with fancy digital frills. Be like Ocean Colour Scene. OCS know when to pitch a note and when to stand back. They might've been unfairly tarnished with the "Dad Rock" badge because of their association with mentor Paul Weller (Weller sings back-up on one song here, the blissfully low-key "No One At All"), but they have the authentic, rootsy feel of the 60s white boy beat groups down pat. On songs like the anti-war, defiant "Profit In Peace" and solipsistic "Emily Chambers", OCS prove that the lessons they've learnt at the hands of The Small Faces, The Spencer Davis Group and The Yardbirds,they've learnt well. One From the Modern is a mini-masterpiece of restraint and passion, albeit passion displayed through a rose-tinted, time-distorted lens. Half the songs here could be mistaken for Pebbles-era garage classics. And that's some compliment. --Everett True

good, but not as good as the previous 2,

One from the modern is definately not as immeadiate as the previous 2 ocean colour scene recordings; moseley shoals and marchin already. This album is close to the aforementioned albums but not quite there perhaps on the basis of the quality of the singles. It does, however, mark a turning point in their music. This album definatley moves in a more folky and lighter direction, more of the songs are acoustic lead and for me it differs widely to the britpop days of moseley shoals. This albums good, but the anticipation of the next excites me more

One from a modern is a class album. At first the album may sound disappointing compared to the ocs albums of before but after you have listened to the album a few times you will keep on listening. The album has some great and catchy songs which will keep you singing and huming till the next album is released. All the songs are good but listen out for july, i am the news and so low

for any ocs fan who was wondreing if the band had lost any of that greatness they have don't worry this album will keep you happy. it will take a couple of listens to fully appreiciate it so don't give up on it first listen. cool
