Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Want to relive the past? For heaven's sake, learn restraint. Don't mar your production with fancy digital frills. Be like Ocean Colour Scene. OCS know when to pitch a note, and when to stand back. They might've been unfairly tarnished with the "Dad Rock" badge because of their association with mentor Paul Weller (Weller sings back-up on one song here, the blissfully low-key "No One at All"), but they have the authentic, rootsy feel of the 60s white-boy beat groups down pat. On songs like the anti-war, defiant "Profit in Peace" and solipsistic "Emily Chambers", OCS prove that the lessons they've learnt at the hands of The Small Faces, The Spencer Davis Group and The Yardbirds, they've learnt well. One From the Modern is a mini-masterpiece of restraint and passion, albeit passion displayed through a rosy-tinted, time-distorted lens. Half the songs here could be mistaken for Pebbles-era garage classics. And that's some compliment. --Everett True

5.0 out of 5 stars My personal favorite, 11 Jan 2002
out of all of the ocean colour scene album's this is my absolute favorite. This is one of the only ocs ablums that i can actually play from start to finish. When i first got it it didn't come out of my stereo for weeks. So Low, Emily Chambers, and the Waves Are some of the best songs i've ever heard. July is also good but i prefer the single version (can also be hard on songs for the front row) this is a must buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Ocean Colour Scene Album...until the next one!, 7 Jan 2001
By verityottley@hotmail.com (Birmingham, England) - See all my reviews
Once you have bought this album, it will live in your cd player for many weeks! When I bought it I couldn't stop listening to it. By far the best song has to be "July", that unmistakable sound of Steve Craddocks guitar sends shivers down my spine every time! "Profit in Peace" is another classic-a protest song for a new millenium! The funky "soul driver" will get your toe tapping and the powerfully dramatic "Waves" is another favourite. On the whole, a must have album for every ocs fan! And we're all awaiting the next album!!

5.0 out of 5 stars On par with ''Moseley Shoals'' and ''Marchin' Already'', 9 Feb 2001
By A Customer
This really is a fantastic album, and is worthy enough to earn a place in anyone's collection. From the fast-paced ''I am the News'' to the brilliant, moving ''I won't get Grazed'' (not crazed), this album continues to amaze me every time I listen to it. There's a pretty wide range of songs on here; I've rarely heard anything like ''Soul Driver'' from anyone other than the fantastic Gomez (another great British band). Mind you, to enjoy this to the full, I'd recommend first buying ''Moseley Shoals'' and ''Marchin' Already.'' Fantastic...
