Product Description

Product Description

On Friday May 14th 2010, Antony Last boarded the Riviera Sleeper service from Paddington to Penzance and, nine or so hours later, got on his bike, set off on a nine-mile pootle to Lands End before turning round and heading up to John O’Groats.

1,056 miles end to end (and a journey commonly abbreviated to LEJOG), topped and tailed with stops at Britain’s most southerly and northerly points. This book charts his progress as he made his way up England’s green and pleasant land (taking in bits of Wales along the way) and through Scotland’s Lochs and Highlands.

Whilst David Walliams’ Sport Relief team had a satellite van, executive coaches, support vehicles, a pacemaker alongside them as they cycled and motorcycle outriders to assist them on their journey in 2009, Antony’s attempt was solo and unsupported.

This is a book about One Man and LEJOG.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous real life account 22 Jun 2011
Format:Paperback
Gotta love these modern publishing methods. The book was waiting for me on the shelf when I rolled in tonight, easily 2 days ahead of schedule (book not me). It's a great read start to finish and the appendii are excellent, especially the costs breakdown. LEJoG is still a lurking plot at the back of my mind so this book is a good nudge, knowing how it breaks down day by day.

Buy it - it costs less than a bottle of wine and is probably more enjoyable. If this chap can go to the bother of cycling from one end of the country to the other and then publishing his account of it, the least we cyclists can do is buy it and wallow in the experience. A superb account that really invokes a sense of actually doing it, rather than just talking about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Impressed 22 Jun 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I bought this book as I've been planning to cycle the route for some time, and it definitely gives you an idea of what it's like. He sets out his mileage after each chapter, which gives you a good idea of how to plan the route and how much you can achieve day by day, but the main benefit is the cost breakdown he's put at the end - brilliant! I was struggling with how much to budget for the trip, but he's given me a ballpark figure I can work around from the off.

The author has a really nice writing style that makes it easy to read - I got through it in a couple of evenings, and the Mrs enjoyed it too.

An absolute steal for £[]. Looking forward to the next adventure he publishes!

Downloaded this book to my Kindle for some light reading. Really enjoyed this book second half of book was less detailed but still a great read. It made a nice change to read about some one doing lejog and not in a rush to complete it in a few days.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read
You have to admire cyclists who take on this trip. This guy does in minimalistically and proves that the body can be fuelled on what is basically junk. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars A good read
A good read, but it felt a little light. However a very honest account of one man's journey. The appendix was a good addition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting read
Although brief a good insight into LEJOG. Also lists costs which makes interesting reading. If you're thinking of doing it solo - have a read.
