Over the last 65 years or so, the Disney Company has been renowned for making family films, many of them which have remained classics to this day. (Bambi; Lady and The Tramp; Cinderella; 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea etc).
This film made in Canada will become, as the years go by, one of Disney's most popular films. Mary Steenburgen plays Ginny Grainger a young mother who is dissilusioned with the way her life and that of her family is going. Failing to develop any Christmas spirit as that time of the year approaches, she is caught up in an amazing series of events which unknowing to her, are caused by her Guardian Angel Gabriel(played with much charm by Harry Dean Stanton). He is giving her and her family the opportunity to rediscover what Christmas can and should be about. A time of joy and happiness; and a reflection of what the Christmas Message is to the world, and that was Peace To All Men and the sharing of those joys with other people who are less fortunate. The film is reminescence of the Christmas Classic "Its A Wonderful Life", where a person is given a chance to see what life would be like if circumstances were to be so different.
The final scenes are a joy to watch, and I bet there won't be a dry eye in the house as Ginny meets up with well, I won't reveal it here, after all, it wouldn't be Christmas, would it? Watch it and see for yourself.
Picture quality is quite good, although soundtrack is basic 2 Channel and is adequate. A charming family film which anyone can enjoy.
