Product Description

One Mad Apple is a satirical novel set in a recent fictionalised past; a reality in which rampant individualism, the eye for the main chance and the avoidance of blame or personal responsibility are elevated to prime human motivations, with alarming (quite literally as it happens) consequences.

One Mad Apple is a world of political incorrectness gone sane - where fear and paranoia run free and unchecked through both our social institutions and our individual relationships.

Looking on the bright side (One Mad Apple is, after all, a comedy, albeit one based on a ridiculous number of outrageous errors), the story focuses on a day in the life of a television researcher as she travels from her home in London to visit a provincial English university "somewhere in the North of England". Her encounters with privatised railways, porters and station managers, not to mention the undeserving poor, leave her both emotionally and physically deprived - quite literally in light of the fact her luggage is stolen by an unreconstructed chancer going by the name (amongst others) of Dave Rinstead.

This chance act of petty larceny leads inexorably to an explosive denouement involving a van full of police officers, a very big hole in the ground and Clint Eastwood (not the real Clint, obviously. Just someone who thinks he's Clint Eastwood or, to be more precise, Dirty Harry. Confused? You probably will be).

While it's not Shakespeare (obviously) the novel does contain a lot of decidedly lowbrow comedy. In this respect readers should be aware that if a fart joke needs to be made, the author's not afraid to make it - and if it works the first time he's similarly not too proud to reuse it.
