Biography

Biography by Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Meshing '60s-styled guitar pop with an understated '80s dance beat, the Stone Roses defined the British guitar pop scene of the late '80s and early '90s. After their eponymous 1989 debut album became an English sensation, countless other groups in the same vein became popular, including the Charlatans UK, Inspiral Carpets, and Happy Mondays. In a entirely all too shortlived a career, this was the single released just prior to their massive 'fools gold', it reached number 4 in the charts and deserved to do much better although it was released as the band was riding on the crescendo of a wave and by the time they reached the top the ride was all but over, the band lost its record contract, split up and went their separate ways - another example of the corporate 90s music industry was unable to handle or 'deal' with many of its greatest 'indie' talents.
one love has a good beat, strong rhythm and teh makings of a no 1 that has never been - best described as 'thinking mans pop' or 'something to chill out to'
