Product Description

Amazon Review

One Last Time is an account of the work of a 30-year-old psychic medium, written with a refreshingly upfront attitude usually rare in such books.

John Edward began having psychic experiences when a young child and by the time he was a teenager, people were asking him for readings. Before long he realised that he wasn't just getting psychic impressions from his clients, but was actually receiving messages from the dead. The title of the book comes from a conversation with his mother shortly before she died, when he said that people should be given "one last time to talk to the people in their lives"; it is this, he believes, that he is doing.

Edward is honest about his own doubts and his problems: "I never forget that I can always be wrong. What I do is full of ambiguity and inconsistency, and sometimes second guesses." Although he hears the spirits speaking to him, there are often problems in the communication: "If there was one thing I would ask the spirits, it would be to slow down and speak more clearly."

One Last Time is a warm and engaging read, totally lacking the often sickly pious preaching found in many other books about communicating with "the Other Side". John Edward is down-to-earth and straightforward and doesn't pretend to have all the answers. This, more than anything, makes the book both enjoyable and believable. --David V Barrett

'One Last Time' is the most inspiring book I have ever read. To say this book is life-changing is in so many ways appropriate. To look up a dictionary definition of Life would find the explanation 'capacity for growth, functional activity, and continual change until death', however this book will redifine Life and how we view it. Of course in life we do grow and change daily, however according to John when we 'die' our endevours in life have not been as fruitless as defined in the dictionary - they mean so much more. John Edward is the most genuine, thought provoking and LIFE-CHANGING medium I have ever encountered. The hope and reassurance this book brings to us all, whether you have lost someone close to you, have had a near death experience, or if you fear the inevitable, will undoubtably bring great comfort. I have passed this book around friends and family - even bought copies for people I've thought could use it, and all have been inspired by it. This book really does touch us all.

I have always been a big fan of John Edward's TV show, Crossing Over, but the thing that struck me most about the book, is that you hear him say the words. The phrases are the same, the terminology, but even for one who has not seen the show this book will amaze, astound and scare you! John Edward gives an insight into his life, how he found out he had both psychic and clairvoyant abilities, how these developed over the years, and gives descriptions of what he does now, people he has "read", experiences that have occured to him during his time as a professional medium, and prior. More importantly this book leaves you with the feeling that people are important when they are here, and as John often says, you should communicate, validate and appreciate when they are here, so someone like him doesn't have to when they are gone. The book will astound you at his accuracy, leave you wondering if it is true, scare you at thoughts of the afterlife, question your beliefs and leave you feeling warm about loved ones who have crossed.

One Last Time is, for me, a seminal work. That is not to say there aren't more important or more insightful or more useful books out there on this subject. (Having said which, I haven't found one yet!) John Edward has had a profound influence on my life, so I'll admit to considerable bias. His (pre-stardom) story is fascinating. His down-to-earth, regular guy personality is a refreshing change from the plethora of mystical morons out there. I think John's greatest contribution to the field has been to demystify the process, to truly humanise it and to spread the word far and wide better than anyone before. Although on his show Crossing Over he may occasionally come out with some intriguing information, too much of what he does leaves him open to accusations of cold reading etc. (Frankly, in my limited experience, I have witnessed and undergone far more astounding phenomena of spirit communication/clairvoyance/clairaudience than anything described in this, or any other, book.)
John's later books, thus far, have been more showbizzy and, therefore, a lot less profound. But I suppose that is inevitable. I'm also a little perturbed by the quite astronomical amounts he charges for private readings/seminars etc. On the other hand, he is a pioneer for the 21st century and is merely reaping what he, himself, has sown.
A fantastic introduction, then, to talking with the dead. And, although I don't agree with everything he says - especially about psychic protection and psychic vampires (!) - his development tapes and CDs are also well worth getting hold of.

I bought this book solely on the merit of John Edwards' television show 'Crossing Over'. It didn't disappoint. I, like many people, have a fear of death. Not a paralysing fear but one that this book manages to dispel. It is heart-warming to read of his journey through life and what being a medium means to him personally. It is also a nice thought that loved ones will be there to 'meet and greet' you on the other side. The memories of lost loved ones came flooding back whilst reading this book and I felt more secure in the knowledge that they are not gone, merely spirits on a vibrational level that I am not able to communicate with. He combines real-life experiences (the death of his mother) with tales of his development into the kind of phenomenal medium he is today. I always thought that these sorts of talents were 'just there'. I did not realise that in order to use them well they could be 'fine-tuned'. This is an incredible insight into the life of a truly gifted and extrodinary man with enough 'creepy' tales to keep you scared, intrigued and unable to put this book down and plenty of emotionally charged stories to make you cry, laugh and despair. Thank God for this wonderful man who brings hope, joy and love to so many by connecting with the only people who can bring to them these things they need so badly.

There are not many books that I find it hard to put down but this was one of them. John Edward's style of writing is engaging and humourous. The accounts of his readings of clients often left me with a mixture of feelings: sadness for the losses which the people had suffered often in tragic circumstances, but also amazement at the amount of factual evidence of survival which came through and the inventiveness of the spirit energies in making their connections. John gives a straight forward description and explanation of his experience of the process and how he understands it.

I know there will be some who will doubt the validity of what they are reading and I guess ultimately we all need our own personal experience for our own proof. Mine came some years back when I attended a Spiritualist Church. Some people were picking up on a spirit boy's presence. The next moment I saw him with my physical eye on the far side of the room as clearly as I could see anyone else. The next minute he appeared right in front of me. This experience not only proved survival to me but it also proved the validity of mediumship. However, it also demonstrated that communication with those in the Spirit World is not easy for them or for us.
