I'm a fan of all sorts of music but prog metal is my favourite......I've spent most of the last 14 years listening to bands such as Queensryche, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Shadow Gallery, Transatlantic...............this CD has to be one of the best prog metal CDs EVER !!!!! Well-crafted songs together with excellent music, and not too much over-the-top-cram-as-many-notes-in-as-possible guitar solos, which makes such a nice change !!!! My advice to other prog metal fans ? If you don't have this CD in your collection, you should have !! Buy it now !!!!!

What can one say about this - it is a totally excellent release. Coming out of nowhere, this band take all the conventions of progressive metal (a la Dream Theater, Queensryche et al) yet come up with something which cannot be compared to any other band. The album is conceptual, based around the fears of a man who works in a nuclear weapons factory and realises the threat to humanity is entails. Well, that aside, this album is excellent in the way in which it combines technical proficency with some cracking songs. Daniel Gildenlow is an amazing vocalist - his range is utterly superb, and some of the notes he hits are beyond belief. The music changes time quicker than I change my pants, but its done in a sophisticated style much like the Theater do. The guitars are really good, and rather than going for the overblown soloing approach, they tend to focus on structured technicality - check out the second song for a totally awesome riff. The down side is the bass and the drum sound - while both are played well, the snare on the drums is nothing short of terrible, and the bass sound is a little flat unfortunately. However, this does not detract from an album that has been well thought out and excellently executed. Go buy now.

This is MUSIC!!!!!!!! 23 Jun 2005

Pain of Salvation's 'One hour by the concrete lake' is one of the best albums i've ever herd! I've only got two at the moment, this one & 'Remedy lane' but Pain of Salvation is by far the best progressive metal band ever! Their songs are full of meaning & can relate to things. Not like these new age thrash bands who tune their guitars to Ab and thrash the strings frantically and talk about rubbish. Pain... produce proper music and they have an amazing vocalist - Daniel Gildenlöw. You must have this album in your collection to make you a true prog. metal fan! This is MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!
