4.0 out of 5 stars The Thrills, The New Strokes? 19 Mar 2003
By Becca
Format:Audio CD
The Thrills Rock!
My first introduction was an 18th B-day trip to see them play a gig in a small smoky pub in the back end of Southampton. Yet this did not discourage me. I fell in love with their laid back, yankee sounding (They're Irish) Strokes-esque songs.
One Horse Town is an excellent introduction to them. It is light and typically Thrill like, catchy but not annoying.
Trust me, within a short space of time The Thrills are gonna be everywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars THRILLED... 25 April 2003
Format:Audio CD
I happened upon a televised live performance on MTV2 last night that has got me as musically excited as when I first heard Slanted & Enchanted over ten years ago. Considering so many bands are desperatly trawling through Seventies 'dirty' rock to find a niche, The Thrills have taken a subtle mix of Beach Boys, Burritos, Velvets, Young, Byrds... you get the idea, and stamped it with their own style and unique flavour and I for one find them a very exciting prospect. Whether they have the 'cool' credentials to become as big as The Strokes etc. we'll have to wait and see but for me it's enough that there's still such a high quality of music out there. Check them out, you won't be disappointed.

This was the first and best CD I ever heard from the Thrills whose album sadly lapsed into Beach Boy tribute territory.
The title track was one of the best singles of 2003. Starting with a thumped piano and breaking into an organ swirl it is one of the best openings to any song. The chrous evokes memories of Make Me Smile by Cockney Rebel. The lyrics of oppression strike a chord with all of those who are stuck in a rut.
Car Crash is very un Thrill-like, and just bounces along very merryily and would have been a good single in it's own right.
Don't play it cool is another great track and make you wonder why the Thrills don't write more human songs than their Americana tribute. Subdued yet emotional, a fine track.
I bought the album on the strength of this single, but I believe the three tracks on this single are only matched by two or three of the album tracks. Great single.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Thrills going to be huge 4 May 2003
Format:Audio CD
The Thrills are incredible, there is no doubt about it. Having heard Santa Cruz (you're not that far) on a compliation CD I wondered what the next offering from these Irish boys would bring, would I be disappointed? The answer was a definite no, on this new track The Thrills have managed to combine all of their musical influences and make music that is truly fitting for lazy summer days. The husky voices of the lead singer add to a very chilled out feel and the soaring melodies add to the true brilliance of the song. If you haven't heard The Thrills yet, beware because soon they will be everywhere and you will have to sit up and listen.
