It seems fitting that Tammy's last album was a collection of duets with George, the most famous of her ex-husbands. By the time this album was recorded, George and Tammy had both found happiness in different marriages and had reconciled their differences. Although Tammy had a long history of health problems, we were not to know that this would be Tammy's last album, but it's brilliant.
There are original songs here including the excellent title track, while the covers include a couple of Charley Pride's biggest hits (She's just an old love turned memory, All I have to offer you is me).
The overall feel of the album is upbeat, reflecting their mood at the time. This album wasn't quite the end of Tammy's career – the last song Tammy ever recorded was In my room, in which she teamed up with the Beach Boys to sing one of their oldies. Nevertheless, this excellent album is essential for fans of both George and Tammy.

This was Tammy Wynette's last ever album, released in 1995. Here she is joined by her ex-husband and singing partner, George Jones, after 15 years apart... and this is their best ever!

Every song is a gem but I love One, It's An Old Love Thing, If God Met You, Solid As A Rock and They're Playing Our Song. I know that's half the album but I really can't pick a favourite from those songs!

This is truly a must have for any Tammy Wynette, George Jones or Country Music fan to have in their collection!

George Jones is my favourite male country singer, and Tammy Wynette is my favourite female country singer, so hearing them together is always a double treat. For a turbulent few years they were married and now, with George`s death earlier this year - how, after the life he`d led, he made it into his eighties is a mystery - they are, sadly, both gone from us, in body if not in spirit.
All of which makes this 1995 reunion record as poignant as it is moving. On a great selection of ten songs (this isn`t a very long album) with titles so ironic in the light of their shared past - Whatever Happened To Us, An Old Love Turned Memory, Just Look What We`ve Started Again, They`re Playing Our Song, etc - the two of them bring tears to at least one listener`s eyes each time I play them.
Vocal duties are pretty evenly shared, though at times I could have done with a little more of Tammy. Mostly one of them takes a verse solo, then harmonise on the choruses. They still sounded like they were made for each other.
The only song that doesn`t come off is the faintly ridiculous If God Met You, with its supposedly feminist refrain "If God met you, she wouldn`t like you". Nice idea, but the trouble is you get the strong feeling that neither Tammy nor (especially) George feels all that at ease singing such sentiments, so they somewhat archly send it up, with the result that the track is ultimately neither fish nor fowl.
No problems with any of the other wonderful tracks, some slow and heartbreaking, others more uptempo, on this late treasure from the two most intense and perfectly attuned voices in twentieth century country music.

George & Tammy - they`re playing our songs...

First got this album on CD. I love their harmonies and think it's a great easy to listen to album. (Unfortunately my wife doesn't feel the same way, so I'm usually listening on headphones but then I start singing along and . . . . .?). Anyway, all the tracks are great, although I prefer the slower ballads. The only one my wife likes is 'If God Met You' ...I wonder why?
