Product Description

Can one day change your life? For Lu Fisher, ex-french teacher and fraught single mother, one day is pretty much like another: typing, translating, making endless cups of coffee…oh, and daydreaming about finally giving up her dull temp job and going back to college and her first love, studying art. Nights, however, are quite a different matter. Particularly those that involve the delectable Stefan, who tutors the local evening class on impressionist painters, and who is making a serious impression on Lu.

But one day is about to change her life. The day on which her irascible boss, Joe Delaney, breaks his arm in an accident and writes off her car. He’s sorry, of course, and yes, he’ll get her a new one, but in the meantime she needs transport and he needs a chauffeur. Simple, he says. She can drive his car instead. No matter that his Jaguar costs more than her house. Or, indeed, that Lu knows he’ll drive her up the wall..

One Day, Someday is a clever, funny novel about that time in a woman’s life when dreams begin fading and princes – handsome or otherwise – are getting thin on the ground. Lu’s always rather hoped that hers would show up someday – trouble is, that someday has been so long in coming, she’s not altogether sure she’d even spot him if he did…

‘An absolute joy to read‘ – Jill Mansell

‘A sassy comedy of romantic errors‘ – Cosmopolitan magazine

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful! 14 Jan 2003
By Jane WJ
Format:Paperback
I loved this. Very funny, warm, witty and true. Lynne Barrett-Lee is one clever writer. I enjoyed the depiction of Stefan as the pretentious self-absorbed artist enormously - the whole art-world strand is hilarious - and the TV crew scenes are equally amusingly-portrayed. But best of all, it's a love story in the finest tradition. I want a Joe DeLaney of my very own (please!) and am sure everyone else who reads it will want one too. I was with Lu all the way - rooting for her to get in there!! Lovely, lovely. Such a truly feel-good book that I didn't want it to end. Thought it Lynne's best yet. Next one please!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mid-life crisis with a French accent 12 Feb 2003
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
There comes a time in most peoples' lives when they take stock and decide whether they're on the right track. Some decide they're not; a few have the good fortune to be able to change that. Such is the case for Lu Fisher, for whom the sad loss of her father brings the silver lining of a small bequest, and the chance to trade tiresome pupils and French lessons for the lifestyle of a mature art student, complete with a student's love life. But in the meantime, she has to fill the time before term starts, and what better way to do so than by temping as a translator/coffee maker/general dog's body for a company with designs on being Northwest Europe's leading name in boiler installation. Only problem is the boss, the rugged but seemingly thoughtless Joe Delaney, who manages to write off Lu's car on the way home from a business conquest and to write off the use of his arm for a few weeks into the bargain. When Lu has no choice but to become his driver, it's a delight to see how animosity on both sides evolves into attraction. But it's not all roses (especially when Lu keeps complaining about the flowers) and right until the end the outcome is unclear. Lynne Barrett-Lee, as usual, does a wonderful job of maintaining the suspense, but her greatest strength is her beautifully sympathetic treatment of characters and all of their relationships. I particularly loved Lu's "perfect" sister and her quest for the latest in home decor. And readers of Lynne's earlier books should keep their eyes peeled for cameo appearances of the heroines of those novels too - it's a small world in Cefn Melin. Thanks for a lovely read, Lynne, and looking forward to number four.

1.0 out of 5 stars No recommended badly written 15 Sep 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I could not get into this book very much, the characters were all great but, the writing was not to a high standard, when the characters spoke the story is great, especially lu and joe's car journeys they were the high light of the book. but when lu, the main character is describing her life the book was boring and this was 70% of the book so I just passed these sections quite a lot, I would not recommend to any of my friends at all. If this book was written how the car journeys banter was then this would of been a fantastic book.

I'm so glad I did! Have meant to read this sooner, as I so enjoyed LBL's two previous novels. The characters are charming, engaging and full of warmth and humour. Read more
