Product Description

An initiate of modern Witchcraft, the author gives the actual rites and rituals of a working coven, from an insider's point of view. These rites were developed by the coven themselves over a period of nearly 25 years and give a fascinating insight into the workings of an initiate-only coven. As the coven itself has ceased practice, the secrecy surrounding these rites may now be lifted and they are here offered as working examples, which others may benefit from. The rites detailed cover devotional, magical and festive rituals, rites for the Greater and Lesser Sabbats, rites for the God and Goddess, rites of passage and workings for solitary practice. In the Appendix, the author gives a unique ritual - developed from information received via trance and dream work - that takes the practitioners on a mystical journey to the mythical island of Avalon, seeking knowledge of the return of the Old Ways and what they may do to aid this return. There are many books around these days, dealing with the rites of modern Witchcraft, but very few are written from an initiated insider's point of view. The author has 30 years of practical experience in working the Craft and, for many of those years, was the Priest of the coven whose rites are discussed here. He helped to craft and write a great many of them and was instrumental in formulating others with the rest of the coven.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful and informative. 19 Nov 2010
There are a vast number of books available on modern Wicca and very few of them actually tell you anything new or worth knowing, that hasn't already been written about. However - here's one with a difference; a book written from the inside, by a person who actually knows the rites and knows what he's talking about. This is, I suppose, a journey through the rites and rituals devised, practised and revised again, by one initiate-only coven over a period of 25 years. They cover all the usual bases, but with the difference that you know these are working rituals that have stood the test of time, used by a genuine coven and not a load of wannabees.
I would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who wants a really good insight into what actually goes on in a genuine coven and also as a resource for other working covens who would like to add to their own repertoires. Go on - read the real thing!
