"SEX, DEATH, AND NOISY NEIGHBOURS"

A killer has come to town. The victims are connected; each pointing to the next, as if in answer to the question: Who is The One?

Is it Peter Reynolds: mild-mannered office clerk pouring petrol through his neighbour’s letterbox in the middle of the night?

Is it Wayne Dolan: a man whose sexual fantasies about his neighbour spiral into dangerous obsession when he learns of her secret life as a dominatrix?

Or is it Gaz: leader of three friends who love nothing more than sex, weed and partying? All women are easy prey for his charms. All except Sally. And the one who doesn’t want him, is the one he has to have – whether she likes it or not.

Mick Nixon has to find the connection, because people are disappearing - and if he and Sally are ever going to share more than just lunch, he’d better hurry up, or they could be next.

A dark, funny, and at times horrific ride, One Among the Sleepless is a thriller set just below the surface of suburban existence. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll throw it through your neighbour’s window tied to a house brick!

“A tale that’s harder to put down than a delicious bad habit.” Walt Kolenda. Examiner.com

"I just can’t get enough of this book! It is fantastic, filled with absolutely everything – comedy, romance, death, and a nice healthy dose of sexual activity. OK…perhaps healthy is pushing it a bit… I didn’t find one dull chapter in this weird, raunchy, thrilling novel."
Ella. Podiobooks review of the podcast version of One Among the Sleepless.

Brella-Owul. Podiobooks review of the podcast version of One Among the Sleepless.

"Quirky and dark humored...Mike Bennett has his finger on the pulse of what creates multifaceted characters that sometimes do the strangest things."

5.0 out of 5 stars Kinky Sex, Murder & Heroics 17 July 2007
Format:Paperback
Just finished this fine dark humourous thriller. Great! Mike's written an interesting bunch of characters; the goofy stoners, the regular single girl who happens to be a dominatrix, and a pretty regular guy who proudly rides his chopper bicycle--even though he's an otherwise normal full-grown adult. But there's also the dim girl who'll do anything (yes anything) for the attentions of the guy of her dreams. And finally, there's a smelly homeless big guy with mirrored sunglasses and a conviction that out there somewhere is "The One" who he must let nothing and no-one get in the way of him "helping".

There's kinky sex, there's murder, heroics and even love.

I love this story and hope you like it too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic thriller 9 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love Mike's quirky style and this story (although a lot steamier / ruder than my usual tales) is a great thriller / horror tale.

It has at its heart a fantastic blossoming romance, and is centred around a flat in Brighton, great fun story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gary Newman and Irving Welsh have tea together 24 Aug 2002
Format:Paperback
A book which does not necessarily fit in to established genres, but has created an addictive format.
A dark humour which is compulsive reading. Nothing is predictable but everything is constant in its entertainment value.
I would recommed his book as something that should be read and I look forward to more works from this new author. Would make a great film.

5.0 out of 5 stars OH MY WORD!! 29 Jan 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book pretty much has a squeal and a laugh out loud on every page. It is dark and debauched but hilarious and I had many belly laughs and was left feeling 'what the f@ck?' On many an occasion. Absolutely loved it and couldn't put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Could be come a cult book ot a cult film 7 Jan 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is an intriguing and involving piece of writing, combining murder, sexual perversion, anti-social behaviour, drunkenness and drugs, comedy, human warmth, and high farce. What more could you want? I have to admit it isn't the sort of thing I would normally go for, and it did pall once or twice, but then picked up again immediately, and the denouement among the buses really has to be read (not) to be believed. This could easily become a cult film if discovered by the right producer. Read it and believe!
