I bought this disc on impulse; they only had 2 left in stock! As with all unheard Naxos discs I feel an emotion which is a mixture of anticipation and caution, heightened in this case by the unfamiliarity of the Ondes Martenot, which like many of you, I only know from its possibly obscure use by Messiaen in his Turangalīla-Symphonie. I need not have had any concerns at all, this is a fabulous disc, and although the works featuring the Ondes Martenot are extremely diverse, none are not in some way or other deeply rewarding. Although for my taste the Lindsay Cooper work is perhaps a touch too pop-culture to endure for as long as the others, it's hard to pick favourites though Wisson's Kyriades and Bloch's Sweet Suite are perhaps just becoming a nose ahead of the rest. Clearly Thomas Bloch and his associates including Wisson contribute to this in no small way with outstanding virtuosity. Hopefully more of the 1000+ works for this instrument will be recorded and made available by these and other performers and if at Naxos' prices then I will be queuing up! More please!
