By Mr. B. A. D. Plowman VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
In my opinion this is quite simply the finest soundtrack ever commited to audio. At times it almost seems the listener is locked in an endurance test whereby they have to forcibly stop themselves from crying, such is the melancholy beauty of the music. It is the finest feature of the remarkable film and, crucially, it sounds just as awesome when standing alone.
On to the highlights:- The title theme is a perfect opener, simmering with a melodic, minimal string section and trademark female warble. "Poverty" is an Italian style classic. "Deborah's Theme" serves to enlarge the lump in the throat, and "Cockeye's Theme" is simply a masterpiece.
The winner for me, though, is the breezy "Amapola 2", a lazy swinging number with endearing clarinet. Every one is a winner, however, with some fine variations on the themes.
I cannot recommend this CD enough,so...you know what to do.

This score stands one of the best in Morricone's catalogue. This record is one of those few that makes tear in your eye when you listen to it. The music matches perfectly to the movie which is also a masterpiece. And this music is so melodically beautiful that it works on it's own also perfectly.
Morricone composed this music already in the mid seventies and there is again a beautiful voice of Edda del Orso on a few tracks.
Ennio Morricone is best known for his Spaghetti Western soundtracks but it's a shame that peole don't know how much great and different kinds of music he has composed. And this soundtrack is only a one very good exmple of his talent.

Brilliant Music 26 May 2003
By E. A. Redfearn TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
A very welcome addition to the ever growing catalogue of Ennio Morricone's music scores. Released before the DVD film version due out in June, 2003, it gives listeners the chance to sample the wonderful music score which enhances the film's mystical qualities. Beautifully performed, enhanced by gorgeous sound, especially if you have a really good Hi-Fi set up, it never fails to move. Some of the music is a little repetitive, and it may sound a bit overlong to some listeners too. But can be bought for a really good price and it is extremely good value. A worthwhile musical compliment to what is perhaps one of the greatest gangster movies ever made.
