Product Description

Product Description

Once Upon a Time is the award-winning storytelling card game that encourages creativity and collaborative play. One player is the Storyteller, and begins telling a story using the fairytale elements on her Story cards, guiding the plot toward her Ending Card. The other players use their own cards to interrupt her and become the new Storyteller. The winner is the first player to use all her Story Cards and play her Ending Card. The object of the game, though, isn't just to win, but to have fun telling a story together.

Box Contains

110 x story cards

Upfront I'd like to point out that I had heard of this game on Will Wheaton's "Table top" web programme. I thought the concept was sufficiently intriguing to give it a spin. You get a vast deck of cards with key words aimed at guiding players towards creating a story. This is a collaborative game, and the more players you have at the table, the more fun the game gets. Your ultimate aim, if at all possible, is to table all your cards and complete the story being narrated. There are few rules to learn which I think adds to the charm of this game. The only negative comment I would like to make is that I think that the game comes in way too big a box for what is essentially a deck of cards. Maybe future versions could have smaller, sleeker boxes which focus on holding just the decks. The rules could be written on the back of a card of the same size as the rest of the deck, or if one is not enough a fan-fold manual could be used. Other than that, great game and one I would recommend to anyone fond of word or story games.

When you play Once Upon A Time you work together to create a story. The rules are pretty straightforward although you'll find that the various challenges that happen throughout the game will need some ajudication.
If all the players can free up their creative side and let their imaginations flow you can create some really fun stories together. If peopel want to play a game competitively to win - this probably isn't the best game as it's going to result in a lot of arguments.
The game also makes a great educational tool for exploring narrative or an exercise for practicing second languages.

I can't tell any story, so I assumed this game wouldn't be for me, but it's actually a lot of fun!

You don't have to be storyteller to play it. You can connect cards with absurd plot twists and it makes a hilarious Monty-Pythonesque stories.

There's also a bit of strategy involved, you can be cunning with words you use. It's my favourite game.

This game is easy to play and lots of fun for all. It's straight forward to follow the rules but you can change the rules to suit the age groups playing as necessary.
You simply all get cards and have to tell a story incorporating the pictures or words on your cards. If you say a word on another players cards you end your turn. First player to use all their cards wins. My daughters have enjoyed playing this game lots.

I absolutely love this game. There are so many possibilities for stories and outcomes, making for some hilarious tales. It's a lot of fun to play and even with 6 players it doesn't feel too crowded.
My one concern is the packaging. For what you get it's a very large box and you aren't provided with any smaller boxes or anything to prevent cards from getting all over the place.

That might seem damning praise, as 'family game' often means 'it's ok for everyone, brilliant for nobody', but this is truly a game for all the family. The first game we played ended with us all in hysterics.
