Book Description

3 Sep 2007

The classic books on a timeless subject -- for a new generation.

In 1975, Alona Frankel wrote and illustrated her first book, especially for her son Michael, on how to use the potty. Thirty-two years later, Once Upon a Potty -- Boy and Once Upon a Potty -- Girl are the classic books on potty training and have sold more than four million copies worldwide. These children's books help parents everywhere deal successfully with an often vexing challenge for the whole family.

Thanks to their timeless words and beloved images, Once Upon a Potty -- Boy and Once Upon a Potty -- Girl are being discovered and used by a new generation of parents. These two books, with their phenomenal staying power, target and meet the needs of an obviously perpetual market.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for all those thinking of potty training. 15 July 2003
Format:Hardcover
I don't normally write reviews on books, but I felt I had to this time. We had been potty training my daughter (28 months) for nearly a week with continuous accidents and nothing in her potty. We bought this book, which she immediately loved and wanted it read over and over. We still had accidents that day, but the following day she did all her wee's into the potty with only one accident. Amazing! 2 weeks later and she is now doing both wee's and poo's into her potty 'just like Prudence'! A must for all those who are potty training.

I have a little girl aged 18 months and she adores this book not only the story but the pictures.I think this book is a great way to make the whole new experience of the potty a less frightening thing. I have been telling every one I know with a toddler to buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Potty Training must buy 8 Mar 2004
Format:Hardcover
Our daughter would not sit on the potty without her nappy on till we read this book to her. Suddenly it was no problem and she wanted the story every time she sat on the potty. Three days later she is now doing everything on the potty and still wants this story.

4.0 out of 5 stars An encouraging story for toddler and mum 4 April 2001
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
This book lets your child see their potty, not just as something they suddenly have to use (or not!) but as a rewarding experience. My two year old loves this book as does his five year old sister who loves to read it to him!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book worked for us 28 July 1999
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
My daughter was given this book as a gift from her babysitter. We pulled it out when she was 28 month's old. By the end of the month she was fully potty trained. That was two years ago. The book kept her interested in sitting on her potty. It really is a cute book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential potty-training book! 9 Nov 2009
By Beansmummy TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought the boy version of this several years ago for my little son who loved it. My daughter is now keen to potty train so we started using the boy version but she was rather perturbed by Joshua's 'pee-pee' and her lack of one! So we bought the girl version. The pictures are identical except for Prudence's hair (in bunches) and her 'pee-pee' (the author chooses to use the same word).

The only change to the text in the last few years (the publisher has changed) is that after Prudence says bye-bye to her wee-wee and poo-poo, she washes her hands! Certainly an improvement!

The author uses the American 'diaper' and her other choices of language (pee-pee, bottom, wee-wee, poo-poo etc) may not be what everyone uses at home, but you can easily replace the relevant words as you read it to your trainee.

I really have no idea why this book has been such a hit with both my children; it doesn't seem all that visually appealing to adult eyes, but it holds their attention brilliantly. They love joining in ('Was it a hat?'.... 'Nooooo it wasn't a hat'.... 'Was it a milk bowl for the cat?'.... 'Noooo...' etc etc) and the pictures of the poo-poo on the floor and later in the potty are, of course, very entertaining when you're nearly 2 (or six for that matter, considering my son's reactions now!).

Highly recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and aimed at americans 13 Sep 2010
Format:Hardcover
I found this book very uninspiring, the pictures are lack lustre and whilst the story itself is ok this book is American and if like me you are English the constant use of the word Diaper as oppposed to Nappy is irritating. My daughter is too young to read the book for herself but even so I resent having to substitute the word when I am reading it out loud to her.
