5.0 out of 5 stars Fast Paced and Fun ! 6 Sep 2001
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
In my opinion this is one of Laymon's best books. Although not as nasty or explicit as some he has written, the pace never lets up, the characters are appealing and believable, and the story is tight and well constructed. I read it in one sitting, finding myself unable to put it down once I had begun. Buy this book, you won't be dissapointed !

5.0 out of 5 stars Once Upon a Halloween 12 Oct 2001
By D. Hensley - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Have you noticed that a lot of horror writers stay away from stories about Halloween. Not Richard Laymon. He plays homage to it to way horror fans want it. This novel works on two levels:
(1) a fast paced Halloween story and (2) a B- Horror movie where the "actors" always do dumb things. There are plenty of horror movie cliche in this book too! (i.e. "stay right there!..I'll be right back") October is a great month to read this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment..... 31 Dec 2005
By Adam Craig - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I am a HUGE Richard Laymon fan, but any intelligent reader will recognize this as one of his absolute worst efforts. The dialogue is some of the worst I have ever read in any book, not just Laymon's. Shallow characters. Surprisingly not that much gore. Too much sex for a book about mostly adolescents.

If you want to read Laymon, read The Traveling Vampire Show.
3.0 out of 5 stars not his best OR worst. 7 May 2014

i honestly don,t get where all the hate for this book comes from.i thought it was much better than the 500 page snooze fests like body rides or the stake.having said that,i do have a few issues with it.the big thing for me was it's too short and you don't really have time to bond with the characters.i think a few more side plots could have been added.second it lacks the graphic sex and violence you expect from laymon,so i don't know where the idea that the book has too much sex came from because there's not a single sex scene and rape is only implied.all that aside,i think it was a good book but far to pricey(only due to the fact that its autographed by laymon himself.)not his best work but still entertaining if you're a hardcore laymon fan.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Halloween Book Ever? 28 Oct 2010
By Maxine Maxwell - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Since Halloween is my favorite time of year, I was expecting a great spook fest. What I got was one of the worst books on the planet. The situations and dialog make any Ed Wood movie (which is what came to mind) look like an Oscar winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Brilliant book- but i knew this before i read it! 23 Jan 2001
By David - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
What can i say Mr. Laymon is the best writer i have ever read with his blend of sickness and humour it feels like the characters are coming at you. With this his latest book we see how a boy arrives at a house on Halloween screaming that something THINGS! are after him and from then on Laymon tells the story of how he and some friends escape from their grasps. This is one of his best books i have ever read and one of his best after the phenomenal ISLAND, BODY RIDES and BITE
