Originally released as Kickboxer this Ddv is now part of the Wutang Clan collection of KF dvds from Ground Zero.
It follows the exploits of Lau Zhai who, as a student of Wong Fei Hung gets inadvertantly involved in drug smuggling and murder.
It is nice to see that Yuen Biao can still bust a move and the film contains some very nicely choreographed fight scenes that feature very little wirework ,which was a change for a movie made in 1993. Look out for some nice performances from Yen Shi Kwan as a policeman and Yuen Wah as the "Mr Big" of the piece.
Both he and Yuen Biao go toe to toe yet again in a nice final confrontation.
Now for the down side. Not a good transfer. From a VHS no doubt and the usual badly dubbed soundtrack from the same two blokes who dubbed every other kf film in existence.
Where this DVD gets 5 stars is on the extras front. It features an excellent audio commentary from HK stunt man and Hung Kuen instructor Mark Houghton. In it he discusses the story behind this and other MA films and gives an insight to what is is like being a Gweilo working in the HK film industry. He also gives some interesting information about Lau Kar Leung, Sammo, Jackie Chan and others. It is very good and is not all sweetness and light and many viewers will no doubt disagree with him. But then again he is there working in the industry and we are not. Also featured are an interview with Yuen Biao (previously seen Eastern Heroes stuff), a Peking Opera performance, Day in the Life of Yuen Biao feature (definitely from the '80s judging by the dodgy clothes and hairstyles)and a Yuen Biao photo gallery.
Then you have a fight choreography piece featuring RZA from the Wutang Clan going one on one with Chi Kwan Chun being directed by Robert Tai.It also features a Wutang Clan video (which is not much cop).
The icing on the cake comes in the form of a Hung Gar demo wihich features Tiger Form, 6 1/2 point pole form and Iron wire form all performed by Jim Uglow and members of the British Hung Kuen Association with introductions by Mark Houghton. As a Chinese Martial Arts practitioner I found this very interesting.
Well worth the money for the extras alone. I beleive this title is deleted. If you can get your hands on a copy buy it without delay.
