Product Description

From the Author

A dream come true...
I have wanted to be a writer ever since I was in grammar school, and at last that dream has come true with the publication of my first book, ONCE A MISTRESS. It is the story of a would-be pirate who must choose between avenging his brother's murder or the love of a strong, courageous woman. Author Miranda Jarrett has this to say about ONCE A MISTRESS: "What a debut for Debra Mullins!  Once a Mistress is a lusty, swashbuckling delight for everyone who wishes Errol Flynn still ruled the seas."

Enjoy the adventure!

5.0 out of 5 stars A talented writer delivers a good romance 8 Dec 1998
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
In 1680 Jamaica, Alex Rothstone, renowned as the pirate El Moreno, enters the garden of Frederick Covington, in order to talk with Lieutenant Governor Henry Morgan. Alex plans to inform his superior that Lord Chilton, part owner of Fleetwood shipping, is working with the odious pirate Marcus. Instead of gaining Morgan's attention, Alex intercedes when Chilton begins to touch his business partner, Covington's daughter, Diana, over her objections.

Alex, who is also Lord Rothstone, has a personal vendetta against Marcus, who killed his brother. His need for vengeance rises when Marcus abducts Diana for his employer Chilton. Alex rescues her and she offers her body to him if he would help prove her father is not involved with the evil Marcus. They fall in love, but their enemies are very powerful and the hanging of a pirate is a simple matter to arrange.

Fans who enjoy a swashbuckling pirate romance will take pleasure from Debra Mullins' debut novel, ONCE A MISTRESS. The action-packed story line smoothly flows with passion and intrigue. The lead characters are warm and witty. Though the villains do not live up to the hero and heroine, readers who relish a trip on the high seas during the age of piracy will devour Ms. Mullin's stew.

2.0 out of 5 stars Its ok, but not the best... 31 Aug 2012

This had the potential of being a great book with a good strong storyline, but it never materalised.

The heroine, Diana Covington, though stunning with red hair, was totally superficial and lacked passionate emotions/empathy, in fact she did not form any relationship/rapport with anyone, not even the nice affable ship doctor.

I like my heroines to be spirited, but Diana was a shrew and was mis-named, should have been 'Kate'. Having said that, I did so enjoy reading about the brawl in the tavern between Diana and the spanish whore Rosana - now that was a real cat fight... after that Diana did become more likeable person.

Oh, I also found the love scenes to be rather tame and could have been more passionate/lusty.
