Gary Hughes' fantastic rock opera returns!!!!!!!!!,
By
This review is from: Once & Future King Pt 2 (Audio CD)
I bought the first part of this epic story and was very impressed with Gary's songwriting in terms of the variety of styles and the melodic brilliance that is hard to find these days. It really annoys me that people like Gary are "underground" talents. What state is the music industry in when a good songwriter like this is not a household name - Well one day maybe. But any lover of melodic rock / AOR / Pomp will love this record. The tracks are more varied in style, (than Part 1) and it also has Harry Hess singing on the final track - Say no more, just buy!

OAFK Pt2,

This review is from: Once & Future King Pt 2 (Audio CD)
Melodic Rock at its best. Gary Hughes continues to produce fantastic albums and it astounds me he doesn't get the recognition he deserves.Part 2 is slightly better than Part 1 in my opinion as it is a touch more diverse. The vocal contributions from the 'guests' bear justice to the songwriting and musicianship with contributions from the likes of Doogie White (ex Rainbow circa 1995), Bob Catley of Magnum, the excellent Lana Lane, Harem Scarems Harry Hess and a host more. The mixture of hard rock songs and ballads is about right and the feel for the Arthurian subject matter is certainly there. This can perhaps be described as a labour of love by Gary Hughes and he pulls no punches in its execution and provides a must have album for fans of melodic rock. If you hate melodic rock then just don't buy. If you do, then its essential along with its partner, Part 1.

Awful second offering,
This review is from: Once & Future King 2 (Audio CD)
After listening to Once & Future King part1, I was impressed as ever withGary Hughe's ability to deliver epic AOR style rock.I couldn't wait toget my hands on Part2. On listening to this second installment of Gary'sArthurian concept album, I was dismaid to find that He'd (obviously),forgotten to write any hooks to his choruses. This Album is more overblownthan Part1. It's as pretentious as concept rock opera's get but withoutany continuation or direction. Gary Hughes usually writes,in my opinion, strong catchy tunes with sing along choruses, this ludicrous secondoffering, offers nothing of the sort. Just a bland visionless mess of overproduced self indulgence. If you've bought Part1 and enjoyed it, stay wellclear of this. You'll be better off waiting for the next TEN album orcatching them live.
