This book takes the reader on a journey, from the Somerset hedgerows of the author's youth, to a magnificient Garden on the edge of Dartmoor, stopping off on the way to visit Alpine meadows, the Fynbos in South Africa, the Lake District, and American prairies. On the journey you discover a new way of gardening, inspired by vast landscapes but easily transferable to any garden space. You also discover that a naturalistic style of planting doesn't mean that you need to have a garden full of nettles.
The recurring theme of this very readable book is the Garden House in Devon, which I first visited 20 years ago and is where the author began to experiment with garden settings inspired by wild landscapes.
I used to think that nothing could be better than the Cottage Garden at the Garden House in early summer, however the journey hasn't ended yet as Keith is now developing his own garden "Wildside" - I await the next book!
