gettin' all shook up 28 Mar 2009
By S. G.
Format:Audio CD
Both these ablums have generally received bad reviews since thier release. Mostly regarding thier origonality etc. Then again, so do a lot of bands in thier later carea (like Bob Dylan, the Stones etc.)

In many ways I agree, but I just love most of the songs on these two albums. Lottie and the Charcoal queen? sure it's just repackaged 'pie', but this is'nt new music, I just want to some hear good blues/soul/rock. Infatuation may just sound generic, but of a genra I like, so again, another great tune in my book. Both these albums run this way pretty much straight through and hence this album may not stand up to critical scruitany, but it's a great chill out album.

This is better than I thought it would be!
I love Marriot and Humble Pie however I have always been put off these 2 Albums as they are usually described as 'not very good,' 'not real Humble Pie'
Right; it is a shame Clempsons' wonderful 70s les paul blues lead playing is missing (though he gets a thank you on the sleeve notes ) and Gregs voice is missed but : it is still good and this line up is a good 70s rock band.
Fav tracks :
Fool for a pretty Face, you soppy pratt, Lottie and the Charcoal queen, Chip away the stone.
Yes Steve has a terrible hair cut on the pics and yes they are all dressed like extras from Minder, and yes the original cover photo for Go For The Throat is awful, However:
However :
However :
Put all these points aside, this CD is definitley worth buying and will be a great addition to the Collection of anyone who likes: Bad Co, Crawler, Steve Mariott, Humble Pie and 70s rock in general.
NB there are no nasty bumble bee in a jar guitar solos on this and no nasty 80s synths
(something I feared as; many a 70s rock band lost their way in the late 70s/early 80s and thought synths were the way forward ! Defo was not !)
I was very plesantly surprised when i played this CD, I wish I had bought them on vinyl when I found them in a second hand shop in Cromer 20 years ago !
Buy this !
Enjoy !
I did !

Classic piece of Pie 6 July 2005

I keep asking myself how many times did I almost spend the $50 and buy a second hand copy of the original pressing of On To Victory? When someone gave me the heads-up that not only was this CD going to be reissued, but bundled with Go For The Throat, and priced below $15 . . . well, let's just say I was pretty darn happy. Humble Pie made some great music during this era (early 80's). The band had lots of ideas, energy, and talent. I saw them at least 3 times during various tours to support these releases and I am THRILLED to finally have both of them on CD. If you love Humble Pie and Steve Marriott (not to mention Bobby Tench on guitar and vocals, journeyman drummer Jerry Shirley, and "Booty" Jones holding down the back beat), then throw down a few fins and get this release. You'll love it.

Technical note: This seems to be a straight release rather than remastered. Given how many older recording remasters end up sounding overly echoed or compressed, I'd say good choice.

Two great Marriott albums at a great price. Had these on vinyl when they came out 20+ years ago. If you are a Pie fan, these are a must for your collection !

Another Great one dead too soon. 3 April 2008
By R. Lee - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Steve Marriott has got to be in the top 20 of all time great guitar players/song writers for hard blues rock. Saw him four times here in Rochester, NY. I even picked him and his band up at the hotel in my car and took them to the Penny Arcade one night. These 2 albums for $15 is a great deal. Don't even think twice about it. There are a couple of songs that aren't so hot but the rest of them are good. True of almost every album ever made. Another good one is Packet of Three - Live. That's the band he had when he died. He was also in talks with Peter Frampton about getting Humble Pie back together. It was a sad day when he died in that house fire. R. Lee
