This digitally remastered reissue of On the Level, Status Quo's No. 1 album from 1975, is approved by the band's official fan club, and this time includes the band's first No. 1 single "Down Down". As an additional bonus this reissue includes "Roll Over Lay Down" (live at the Reading Festival), "Gerdundula" (live at Shepherds Bush Empire), "Juniors Wailing" (live, 1975) and "Roadhouse Blues" (live, 1975).

Format:Audio CD
The 8th Quo studio album, originally released in February 1975, and entering the album charts at number one, when the group were more or less at the peak of their record selling career. In fact "Down Down", when released as a single with "Nightride" on its b-side, gave the band its only number one hit single to date.
Generally,there seem to be only two levels of interest in this group either 'fanatical' or 'scornfully indifferent', with not much in between. Like many, I am firmly rooted in the 'fanatical' brigade and believe Quo are among a handful of bands (others would include The Ramones, The Runaways, Joan Jett and Green Day) that have shaped and massively influenced the music that we all listen to today. No group can rival them for the directness and excitement of their straight-down-the-line rhythm interpretation that produces a sound that induces an almost uncontrollable desire to 'jig'n'jive' or in the case of the 'scornfully indifferent' a face that looks like a pile of something that blowflies swarm around in the summer's sweltering heat.
There are some stellar tracks including "Little Lady", "I Saw The Light", "Down Down" of course, and "What To Do" but the rest aren't far behind either. This album when reissued in 2005, 5 bonus tracks were added including "Roadhouse Blues", and "Roll Over And Lay Down".

With On The Level, Status Quo continued to set the standard - and leave the rest trailing in their wake - with yet another top quality album.
Considering the number of classy tracks on show here, it seems strange to me that only one single was ever released from the album ('Down Down', to date their only ever No 1 hit.) Songs like 'Little Lady', 'I Saw The Light', 'Over And Done', 'Broken Man', and even their cover of 'Bye Bye Johnny' would, in my opinion, all have made potential singles.
That there were so many good songs and good choices for single releases sums up to me just how high a standard Quo were setting throughout the 70's and early part of the 80's with their music.
A masterpiece of heads down rock music!!

Completing a hat trick of sensational releases 1975's 'On The Level' boasts the bands only genuine number one hit single 'Down Down'.Pulling back slightly from the heavier QUO album this disc highlights once again the versatility of Quo and the fact that they could stamp their sound on different types of song,from the ballsy no nonsense opener 'Little Lady . the sing along 'Most Of The Time,countryish 'Where i am' and the heavy riffing 'Nightride and cover all bases in between for example 'Broken Man isnt typical Quo but its them ,that recognisable guitar sound,the frantic cover of 'Bye Bye Johhny' along with the rarely heard but excellent all the same 'over and done/i saw the light'
Theband are on top form fantastic drumming and insistent bass underpinning the guitars,top notch musicianship which they never get credit for.
BONUS TRACKS: now we really get our monies worth,approx 30 mins of live tracks - the original Quo Live EP featuring Roll over lay down/Gerdunduls and Juniors Wailing with a superb Roadhouse Blues previously available on the box set 'Rockers Rollin',also here the single edit of down down.
Fabulous remaster,like all the others comes with a decent booklet and informative notes.

I'm confused? Is this Vinyl version or CD? I can't see it being Vinyl with so many extra tracks and being "remastered", so whats all the "[VINYL]" in the title about? Read more
