Quite insperational 24 April 2006
Format:Hardcover
Quite inspirational
After being hooked on the tv show, and aching to do something similar for quite some time, I decided to give the book a go.
Jimmy has a very relaxed and quite simple writing style that is easy to follow, but can be a little "diary like" and monotonous. This in no way detracts from the enjoyability of the book though.
The book makes you realize that the tv series is VERY heavily edited, and actually, Jimmy does a little better out of the farm than you are led to believe on tv. I suppose a story about a guy just scrapping by with little help or staff is better for ratings than the truth! Jimmy is to be commended for his return to a more traditional way of farming, with his vision of a multi livestock farm being refreshing in this world of high yield agriculture,
That said, it's well worth a read if you are aching to return to a world where food tastes good again. He even includes some basic recipes. Enjoy

Having been entertained by a couple of the episodes of Jimmy's Farm on TV I thought the book would fill the picture out a bit. Well it does and more. Not only do you get a fuller picture of the process of building the farm and what life was like doing it but you also get more of Jimmy's endearing way. All this makes it a very enjoyable read.

For me, a city dweller, the book has just the right amount of detail to be informative and not boring. If you want to follow Jimmy you will need more than he tells you but here is a book to inspire.

Ok, so I'm biased. Jimmy used to live next door to me when he was at Coventry Uni (along with his adorable dogs Cora and Bracken), but a genuine, kind, intelligent and ambitious person, who was always growing veggies and herbs.
This book tells of the sheer hard work and determination to create a rare breed farm with no experience at all. It also has some useful tips/recipes for everyone to appreciate nature and good food, while making us aware of the processes needed to get the product to the table, that we all take for granted!! Even if I didn't know Jimmy, this book is an excellent insight into a the dying art of farming and animal welfare!! He wasn't called "Nature Boy" for nothing and Jasper the pig is a star - it's like Babe all over again!!
