I really love this series of books. They are very clever and concise and show lovely pictures from all over the world. I do recommend especially "bread bread bread" (=mine and my kids favourite)

How do other children get from here to there around the world 7 Mar. 2007
By KSL - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This is just a really simple book showing how children travel around the world. Each page has 1 photo and 1 or 2 sentences so it's perfect for begining readers. There is a index in the back of the book that tells where each photo was taken and then on the last page a map showing where each photo was taken.

This is a really nice book that can show your child how people in other countries travel about and how we might look different, but we do some of the very same things. And also opens up a chance to discuss how people in different cultures live and how it might be the same or different.

Here's a list of the places and photos in this book

Boats - from Peru, Hong Kong, Somalia, Australia & the US

Bicycles - India, Nigeria

Walking/ Carrying - Ghana, Hong Kong, Bali, India, Germany

Buses- Germany, Egypt,

Trains - Germany, Denmark, Monorail - US

Planes, Germany, US & Space Shuttle

Beautiful world travel, world culture book 3 Mar. 2011
By Assoc For Natural Psych - Published on
Format: Paperback
Read this book with third grade students. It captured them. Beautiful photos from all over the world about how people get about. It starts with the lowest tech, boats as on the cover, and ends with the highest tech, airplanes and going to the moon. It includes countries such as Hong Kong (China), India - rickshaw, etc. Very nice for early childhood. If a teacher reads to the children, the children should understand that going to the moon is not necessarily better than getting around in Hong Kong by boat. High tech doesn't necessarily mean better. If you use this book to teach children about different cultures, and how they might get around themselves in their city, then there are great lessons and great pictures here.
Wonderful opportunity to show kids the world 20 May 2010
By D. Fernandez - Published on
Format: Paperback
My 2 and 4 year old love this book and ask for it every night. My 4 year old has memorized the country corresponding to almost every photo, and when she forgets, my 2 year old remembers! My older child can also identify most of the countries in the map in the back (doesn't show every country, just the countries where the photos were taken, making it easier to ID the countries), and my 2 year old can identify a couple of them.

There are not many other opportunities in our day to day life to expose the kids to the cultures and people of other countries, so I really appreciate this book.
PreSchooler Geography 27 Dec. 2012

From 1994, this book is a little dated. Still, the photography is beautiful and it is a great way to start conversations about how there are different places in the world and the people who live there do not have the same lifestyle as the one we live. Since this one talks about transportation, it is a particularly nice addition to those book collections that have lots of trucks and trains.
great book 19 July 2008

My daughter loved this book starting at age 1 1/2. The simple text and colorful photos really pulled her in, and we read it again and again. Her 3-year old sister was interested too, although not as much so. I like this book because of the international, multi-cultural images, which are not abundant in children's literature.
