Product Description

Product Description

These fully automatic blood pressure monitors are stylish yet offer comfortable, quick and accurate blood pressure monitoring. The MIT Elite Plus version with its additional feature of the Bi Link software application allows readings to be downloaded onto a PC where they can be reviewed and saved.

With irregular pulse detection, the MIT Elite range decides fully automatically if the measurement result is usable or whether the measurement needs to be repeated. Only accurate results are displayed. Other features include a body movement indicator and a hypertension indicator level, for users who want to verify that their BP is in the recommended level of under 135/85 mmHg. In addition, these clinically validated monitors also feature an averaging mode meaning that three measurements can be taken automatically in 10 minutes and an average is calculated to offer a more comprehensive reading.

What is high blood pressure?

The heart is a small but very powerful pump that beats steadily. The pressure created by the heart to pump the blood through the blood vessels is called blood pressure. When the heart muscle contracts the blood surges through the arteries - this is when the systolic (upper) blood pressure value occurs. The diastolic (lower) value is the resting pressure before the heart contracts again. Home blood pressure readings should ideally be below 140/85 mmHG.

Clinically validated

Every Omron blood pressure monitor is tested for accuracy against the clinical guidelines for measuring blood pressure that are specified by the european Society of Hypertension. A clinically validated monitor means that it has undergone tests conducted by independent doctors according to a predetermined protocol, which includes ensuring the accuracy of the measurements (algorithm) of the blood pressure monitors.

Intellisense technology

Omron Intellisense is the most known technology for blood pressure measurement. An Intellisense monitor inflates the cuff to the ideal level for each use, meaning that each reading has a personalised inflation level that is right for the user.

Irregular heartbeat indicator

This feature can detect irregular heartbeats while your blood pressure is being measured. If an irregular heartbeat is detected, an indicator icon will appear alerting you so you can consult with your medical professional.

Averaging mode

Technology automatically displays the average of up to the last three readings taken within the last 10 minutes.

Bi-link

Enables PC connectability via a USB cable. The Omron Healthcare Management software enalbes you to store and track your blood pressure readings over a set period. You can view your data by day, week or month depending on the frequency of use.

How to use and Omron blood pressure monitor

Omron's MIT Elite Plus allows you to measure your blood pressure with ease and accuracy in the comfort of your own home in just a few steps. After positioning yourself and the cuff, it's simply a matter of turning the machine on, pressing start and then recording the measurement. To help you monitor your readings, the MIT Elite Plus can also be connected to a PC by installing the Omron Bi-Link Software included with the monitor. You can then then able to download their readings which can then be sent via email or print them.

About Omron

This is a super piece of Kit, well made, and it's readings are close enough to those taken with a mercury sphygmomanometer at the doctors surgery to be reliable. I bought it so it could download the readings to my PC, which works fine (unfortunately NOT mac compatible) It also records your pulse. The software is easy to use, and the display is fine, but if you're a bit of a spreadsheet nut, you can download the data, and make your own graphs etc! I did have a problem with loading the software (looking for a wrong Drive), but solved it easily enough with Windoze help!
The machine is easily portable and discrete - so can be taken anywhere. I had to buy the large cuff to suit my arm, and the standard cuff that came with it comes in handy if others want a reading taking!
I'm trying hard to improve my BP etc, and I've also got the OMRON Walking Style Pro Pedometer, which links with the same software (though can only be bought via a company called "fitbug" - an online subscription "weightwatchers"! If you want to keep track of your BP, and are happy with using your PC, then go for it. I think there is another OMRON BP monitor that can be used with this kit, so choose the right one for you!
Would have 5*'s except for the software bug!

At this price its a notably expensive option for monitoring BP [Blood Pressure Association do a clinically validated one for half the price], however I like the convenience of being able to just plug it into my laptop and downloading my readings [i'm pretty disorganised so I like to keep things simple!!]. A great little device and would recommend. Incidentally it says XP or Vista software needed but works fine with Windows 7 on my laptop.

Just add batteries and it works, just make sure you set the the date/time correctly before using it as the software can not edit the data once it is uploaded to your computer, otherwise it all works just fine.

The battery life exhibited by the product seems rather disappointing.
the Elite Plus claims 300 measurements and isn't impressive.
I haven't counted the tests before battery change but as I am now using the third set of batteries 300 seems to be an exaggeration.

The software divides the test times into "morning" "daytime" and "evening".
Unfortunately I have been unable so far to discover the timings of these periods consequently the monitoring displays gaps that could be distorting the results.
Perhaps this problem will disappear when I manage to synchronize myself to the software.

As a person suffering from hypertension I have to monitor my blood pressure regularly, I had my old wrist BP monitor but unfortunately my GP said it wasn't clinically validated so they could not really take those readings for granted. So on this advise I have started searching the web to find something what would be scientifically proved working correct and taking reliable readings, and I have found Omron to be that make, also went after friends' advise.
I have just received the MIT Elite Plus monitor I have purchased on here and I have to say I am more than pleased with this purchase.
As mentioned before I do suffer from high blood pressure, which on occasions can be extremely high therefore my old wrist BP monitor used to nearly squash my hand to do the reading, as it was inflating the cuff first and than taking the reading. Omron MIT Elite Plus on the other hand is taking the reading while it is inflating the cuff therefore it is not squashing your arm and as a result it is much more comfy.
The only problems with this BP monitor are first of all its price, which is not the cheapest, second the software what is coming with it so you can download your readings to your PC is ONLY Windows compatible therefore if you are a Mac user you are not going to take advantage of this facility.

Other than that I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I have to use a blood pressure machine regularly and I initially bought this (over other monitors) for its flat design - thus better portability - and because it can apparently be used even if people have an irregular heartbeat (for which many monitors are inaccurate, a known problem for professionals). I know that the manufacturer Omron is a big name in the field of medical equipment, so I (wrongly) thought that I could trust their expertise for a professional product in this price range.

I bought it for £82 3 years ago - a bargain compared to its RRP £117.40 and was initially rather taken in by its shiny-clean appearance. I didn't let myself get disappointed that its software was not compatible with my Mac (it was not an essential requirement, otherwise I would have bothered to find out before my purchase) - I had hoped for OS compatibility in this day and age (even 3 years ago), but it was not to be.
I've been using it since purchase both for people with regular/irregular heartbeats (I Did want to give it a good try and used both the normal and the large cuffs appropriately). I have been comparing it regularly with other machines (all calibrated regularly).
I completely agree with the 2 previous reviewers who found its readings inaccurate, mostly too high.
IF you do several readings in a row, you'll notice the first one (after you switch on the machine) will almost always be high. If you do several sequential readings usually the next values will be lower and in a similar range to each other, which allows an average result that Still has to be taken with a pinch of salt.
As for the claim that it can handle an irregular heartbeat - NO, sorry, IT CANNOT.
Not with my machine (and yes, it was checked and calibrated etc etc.).
