Body fat has low electricity conductivity. The BF400 measures the body fat percentage by using the Bioelectrical Impedance (BI) method. Muscles, blood vessels and bones are body tissues with higher water content that conducts electricity easily. Body fat is tissue that has little electric conductivity. The BF400 sends an extremely weak electrical current of 50 kHz through your body to determine the amount of fat tissue. This weak electrical current is not felt while operating the BF400. In order for the scale to determine body composition, it uses the electrical impedance, along with your height, weight, age and gender information, to generate results based on pre-determined data of body composition.

The scale was on the slightly heavier side than i expected, but it was a good thing, it is a well made, sturdy and stylish scale. The manual provided is extremely good (multi-languages) and is detailed but simple to follow, i understood perfectly how to work the machine after just one read through. In general I am extremely happy with my buy.
So far from using it, the accuracy is quite high, i have weighed myself multiple times (once after the other) and the readings are within 0.2 +or- of a kg or %. The added features of body fat measurement and hence the BMI (Body Mass Index) is an extremely useful addition, which is measured via the electrode pads on the scale (the 6 metal sqaure points). I orginally just wanted a scale that would be accurate enough and digital, the added bonus of these features makes it worth the money.
It can store up too 4 personal files (family members etc) which is also useful, as it stores your last entry, so you can basically see beforehand what you weighed/body fat/BMI before you step on the scale again. It seems however that when you step on it, your new details are then stored, so remember to first record your details (on a piece of paper/diary, or just glance at them) BEFORE you stand on the scale again.
If you just want to use the scale for a quick weight measurement, this can be done as well, and it works like a normal scale where you turn it on, stand on it and then it measures your weight in 1-2 seconds, then you can turn it off.
It is stable on a carpet surface (which is what i have it on) and has a large screen to read all the measurements off, as well as having a simple and easy to use interface.
The scale runs off AA batterys (which i find is the easier/cheaper type of batteries to buy) i would of prefered if it was a lithium type battery, but im not that fussed. The manual says that the average battery life would be 1 year (if you use it 4 times a day), however, the batteries supplied might have a shorter duration - but i expect them to last at least 8-9 months.
Overall it is an accurate scale, for all the measurements, the durability is still to be tested as i have only had it for a short amount of time, but for the money paid for it i expect good results. My advice is rather than buy a cheaper scale, instead spend that little bit more and buy this, you will not be disappointed.

I'm extremely happy with this product. I was looking for a very accurate scale (after a really bad experience with Weight Watchers glass scale) and this one is so great, it gives you same result (+/- 0.1kg) every time and EVERYWHERE! I've tried it in every room in my house, also on carpet and it was that accurate. I don't think the fat measurement is so good but I was expected that, because you don't have any hand grips, so I'm not dissapointed at all. The only minus is that there is stated it's for a family use, while the age range you can set up in memory is 18-80, so not necessarily for children. Overall if only you want scale which does what it's designed for, with same extras, this one is the best choice! Highly recommended.

This is a great product, entering user's details are easy. I inserted the details of my partner and I, and both of us use it daily. The scale is great for just measuring your weight, and also for displaying fat % and BMI. It has a large face, so makes it easy to read, and also keeps repeating the info until you turn it off, so you can note down your daily weights if you want- without having to remember it all. It also comes with a manual which tells you how you are doing on an official basis. This is also displayed on screen so you can see if you are under/healthy/overweight (according to the WHO official weight scale).
Overall, great product. Helps me to remember what is important when measuring a healthy weight.

Hard, solid floors, please
Very clear instructions of how to programme the scales.They look modern and distinguished.It should, however, be clearly stated that they work incorrectly on any carpet.
