Product Features

  • Dim your screen beyond device's normal settings
  • Create 5 presets
  • Adjust both backlight brightness and contrast

Product Description

Is your minimum screen brightness still too bright? Dim your screen below what your device normally permits for comfortable use in darker environments, reading in bed, amateur astronomy, etc. Save battery life. No root required.

Save your five favorite brightness and contrast settings as a preset, and get it back by touching a single button or by a Launcher shortcut. ScreenDim also creates a notification item in your status bar so you can easily go back to it to adjust settings.

ScreenDim is the first dimmer that can both adjust backlight brightness below what the system normally permits on many LCD devices and dim the contrast. Some dimmers only lower the contrast, which keeps the black areas unchanged and glowing gray on LCD devices when in the dark, or only change the backlight within the range normally allowed by the OS.

ScreenDim was written and tested especially with the Kindle Fire in mind.

This is a three day trial of ScreenDim. After the three days, you will need to purchase the ScreenDim Full version to keep on using ScreenDim.

To activate ScreenDim, just tap on the "Active" checkbox and adjust the sliders.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential App for Kindle Fire 15 July 2013
Verified Purchase
What is the point of an E-book if you can't read it in the garden or on the beach? This app makes it possible to do both. I only tried the free trial for an hour and immediately bought the full version. Essential for using the Kindle Fire in daylight. Highly recommended.

Good when you get the settings right! I bought the full version. Only problem it that it doesn't start up when you switch phone on you have to do it manually.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works as Advertised 11 Jan 2012

This app is quite nice, to be honest. It works as advertised and will dim your screen much lower than the device's standard settings will allow. It also lets you adjust the contrast and has five presets.

If you have a problem with your screen going OFF once you lower the setting to a certain point, try pushing the Volume + button on your device a few clicks, then tap the screen off and back on. That brought the display back for me when that happened. You can also set the "minimum brightness" value to whatever value last worked before the screen clicked off to ensure this doesn't happen again. For me, that value was 3.5%. Yours may be different (or you may not experience this issue at all).

However, it needs to be said that "Brightness Setting" does nearly the same thing as this (it's lacking the contrast setting) and is entirely free. I suggest you give both apps a try before making any purchases. The other app will only go down to 5% brightness, so if you need it dimmer than that, this app is a better bet. Even though the minimum brightness on your device might not be much lower than 5%, you can combine the brightness setting with a lower contrast setting to get your screen VERY dim, overall. For my own purposes, however, I find Brightness Setting is sufficient for my needs and I prefer the simpler interface (and the fact that it's free). YMMV, of course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saves energy and your eyesight! 21 Sep 2012

I was skeptical when I came across this app as to whether it would work or wind up blacking out my screen. It gives you greater control over the brightness. Before, even on the lowest setting I could manage, my screen was often way too bright. I also noticed that it would quickly drain my battery if I did anything but carry it around all day unused. After getting ScreenDim, I have been delighted to have extended battery life lasting much longer, plus the brightness is not painful to the eyes at all. Just remember to reset it to automatic if you are going out into bright sunlight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent - you'll need it. 13 Jan 2013

If you are using any of the Kindle Fire's, you're going to need this. It really should be built into the product... it's kind of a no-brainer, but they don't, and I'm glad a friend recommended it, or I wouldn't be using my Kindle nearly as much. It's a must have.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not For Me 14 Sep 2013
By barbara270 - Published on Amazon.com

Someone else might like this, but it sure wasn't for me. I found that it didn't dim the screen enough to make it worth going to a black screen and having to do a hard start up on my Kindle Fire HD. Not worth the bother. I sent it out to cyber space where I'm sure it's been joined by other worthless apps.

2.0 out of 5 stars lowered my screen brightness ... to black 18 Aug 2012

I am sure this app would work great on other devices, but the first time I opened it my tablet screen (Coby Kyros) went to black. I was not able to get it to work and had to re-boot the tablet. From the quorter second I saw the actual app I could tell it had meny features, too bad it did not funtion as well as I hoped.
