I rarely read introductions, preferring to get into the meat of a book. However, this intro is well worth spending some time over - it explains the selection of verses, introduces the life and character of Fitzgerald and his orientalism, but is literate without being pompous. Most of the verses, 69 of 105, are from the first edition with others added from the fifth. This enables Briggs to keep the most famous stanzas and to add the sometimes more elegant lines from the later edition.
Good value for money, bound securely and pleasant to handle.
