Description

Exquisite quality, unrestricted creativity
With the broad focal range provided by the ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 50-200mm f2.8-3.5 SWD, the action is brought close so that you’re never far from a winning photo opportunity.

Bringing out the exquisite image quality of digital, three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lenses combine to deliver a high-end imaging performance, with bright f2.8-3.5 maximum apertures at the zoom ends.

Other creatively flexible features include a minimum focusing distance of 1.2 metres throughout the zoom range plus a mechanically linked manual focusing mechanism.

Splash and dust proof
Your photography no longer has to stop because conditions are inclement or uninviting. Make the most of your art and experiment with new and exciting forms of imagery safe in the knowledge that your virtually indestructible ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 50-200mm f2.8-3.5 SWD optic is protected from the elements.

Supersonic Wave Drive (SWD)
Users of the ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 50-200mm f2.8-3.5 SWD enjoy the benefits of SWD technology for fast, smooth and stress free auto focus. In fact, this super-telephoto lens boasts an AF speed that is approximately twice as swift as its predecessor.

Two advanced technologies are incorporated in Olympus’ new Supersonic Wave Drive, not only ensuring exceptional focusing speeds and accuracy, but near silent operation also. A pair of compact supersonic motors deliver the high driving force required for extremely high focusing speeds, while a highly precise encoder developed with micro-machine technology detects the lens position with micron-level accuracy to precisely determine the lens stop position.

Zuiko Digital lenses: part of the E-system family
The Four Thirds system utilises advanced lens coating technology to achieve optimum colour balance and to reduce the typical bugbears of ghosting and flare. Reflections are reduced regardless of the angle of light and at a wide range of wavelengths.

Together these refinements ensure accurate, natural representations of light and atmosphere even when photographing against the light (contre jour), thereby providing excellent imaging performance with high contrast.

The Four Thirds lens mount also supports completely electronic information communication between the lens and camera body. Every interchangeable lens, teleconverter and extension tube incorporates a CPU for two-way communication with the camera body, exchanging information on lens type, focal length and F-number.

Each Zuiko Digital lens features the high resolving power required to maximise the performance of the digital sensor. Precise optical designs focus light to illuminate the image sensor at a near-perpendicular angle, minimizing degradation and light loss, even at the image periphery or when using wide-angle lenses. Brilliant image contrast and high edge-to-edge sharpness, even when used at wide apertures, characterise all Zuiko Digital lenses.

The Zuiko Digital lens line-up provides the largest selection of true, designed-for-digital lenses. A wide focal-length choice ranges from a 35mm film lens equivalent of 14mm up to 600mm, including a full-frame fisheye lens and a professional grade 1.4x teleconverter that's uniquely usable with all Zuiko Digital lenses.

With the Zuiko Digital range of lenses there’s therefore no need to compromise on quality or performance.

This is an absolutely wonderful lens: autofocus is very fast and accurate and it is the sharpest lens I have used so far. The 35mm equivalent focus range of 100-400mm makes it an excellent long lens for wildlife photography and it is so sharp that every detail is clear. It is quite heavy as one would expect, but much lighter than the Sigma lenses (also sharp, of course) covering the same focal lengths on my other cameras. Unfortunately, exchange rates are much more adverse than they were when this lens first appeared, so it is now more expensive - but if it is a possibility, buy it and you will enjoy it. I am still very much a beginner at digital photography: I'm sure there will be much more to praise about this lens as I become more expert, but, for now, it's super!

Sharp and fast 2 Jun 2011
By IanW VINE™ VOICE
This is a truly delightful lens to use. The maximum aperture of f3.5 at the 200mm end of the range (400mm 35mm equivelent) give a realy bright viewfinder image and, even at the extreme, my E3 snaps sharply into focus. I also use it with the Olympus EC-20 2x converter giving a phenominal 400mm (800mm 35mm equivent). At this extreme, it is sometimes necessary to zoom out to get the focus, but once gained, it is possible to zoom back out without losing it.
Image quality is excellent and it handles superbly, it's a joy to use.
I really can't fault this lens.
