Large, clear display and easy activation
The VN-8700PC features a large 1.61-inch LCD display that offers a choice of four different font sizes for upper and lower case to highlight text. For the ultimate in convenience operation is via one large central button, with a voice activated recording option for ‘hands free’ use.
High quality recording
The VN-8700PC offers high quality WMA and MP3 format recording. Files can be easily downloaded via USB 2.0 to Mac or PC for archiving or sharing via email without additional software being required.
4GB internal memory
Up to 1720 hours of recording time is offered by the VN-8700PC in LP mode thanks to its 4GB internal memory. And, by adjusting the three different quality settings (HQ, SP or LP), new users will soon get to grips with finding the perfect balance between recording time and audio quality.

Recording scenes
To guarantee the best sound quality for a given situation, users can opt for one of five Scene Select options, including ‘conference’, which will highlight the speaker’s voice whilst eliminating any distracting background noise. A ‘DNS’ setting further improves results when the recorder converts speech to text when used in conjunction with speech recognition software.
Long battery life
Additional benefits include longer battery life--up to 51 hours in LP mode using 2x alkaline AAA batteries, so this is one device that truly won’t leave you speechless. The VC-8700PC also uses 30% less energy than its VN series forebears.
Lightweight and portable
The black and white VN-8700PC measures a compact and diminutive 108x39x16.8mm without protrusions, and is a mere 66g including batteries, so neither will it weigh heavy on your pocket, purse, or for that matter wallet.
A wealth of optional extras
Extend battery performance further by investing in a set of BR-401 rechargeable Ni-MH batteries and a compatible BC-400 quick charger. Additional recording aid comes courtesy of ME-10 and ME-15 Tie Clip Microphones, the ME-12 Noise Cancellation Microphone and KA-333, KP-23 and TP-7 cables and adapters.

I bought this so that I could record lectures and play them back for revision purposes. The sound quality is good and picks up even quiet voices, without buying the additional microphone. It has good memory and I like that it has 5 different files so I can use one for each lecture. It also comes with a pretty comfortable pair of earphones, which is a bonus when listening to a three hour lecture on the move!

I picked this product even though I was never really sure it would be right for me as there are quite a few different manufacturers, models and suppliers. I checked out various reviews but in the end I was pulled towards the brand name and a high storage model(4GB)and the amazon pricing when I bought it was good. This VN8700PC does exactly what I wanted. It's light, slim, 2 clicks and you're recording. There are two sensitivity settings for the microphone and there's voice activation. It all works. The plug and play interface with the pc is via a very short USB cable where I viewed all my folders and files in the explorer window. I can then delete or cut and move to a folder on the PC, nothing fancy but it all works. I have also deleted directly from the voice recorder which comes with loads of warnings to make sure I was deleting the right file. You can buy accessories and I bought the TP7 and that works fine. There is an instructions booklet to get you going, however there is also a comprehensive operating manual on the device which you can read via your PC and that has all the info on the various settings.
I can't compare this with anything else as this is a first for me but I'm happy.

I only use the voice recorder for my classes at the Uni.
Even in a big room with about 500 people the recorded lectures are of good quality.
Battery life is great. I've used it for a few weeks now and I still got a full bar.
4GB is overkill of course, but a pleasant bonus.
Lastly, the controls are very intuitive and easy so you don't need to read the manual.
All in all, I can highly recommend.

Good but need to be near front of class!

This is a must for so many differant uses. Its small slips nicely into your top pocket and gives a good quality recording. I would be lost without it
