Four recording modes: Choose the mode that best meets your needs?XHQ for extra high quality, HG for high quality, along with SP and LP for extended recording. Slow and fast playback modes let you listen to audio 25 percent slower or 50 percent faster than real time. Simple navigation: Manage and store all of your audio files in four folders for easy organization and retrieval. Each of the four folders store up to 100 files. Timer: Set up a specific period to record by setting the beginning and end times. Use the simple index marking function to mark a specific point during recording or playback for quick location. Voice activation: Extends recording time by recording only when the microphone senses sound. Index marking: Place an index mark at any point during recording or playback to quickly locate passages of interest.

Olympus - VN-4100PC Digital Voice Recorder

Excellent machine and very well priced, go for the VN4100PC, the price difference is so small the others are not worth considering. Very good microphone for personal use, it's what you would expect beyond but still fairly good.

You cannot play MP3 and you cannot download to it but you can record sound through a microphone jack. Connects well with my Pure radio. Recordings can be through the built in timer, a very useful facility.

The output file is wav and some say you cannot transfer directly to CD. However you can use a freeware program such as Audacity to edit sound files and covert to MP3 and other formats. These play well on my Palm and other MP3 players.

Small size for shirt pocket and weighs just 63g with batteries. Well made. Overall, I am very pleased.

Love this product! Delivery was very prompt. Received within a couple of days of ordering. Compact design without too many complicated buttons to play with. Very easy to set up and use. Got mine done in less than five minutes! Not bad for a middle aged guy! Instructions were very easy to follow. Once I'd put my glasses on! The range of the internal mic is suprisingly good. I could pick up people talking normally from 5 or 6 metres away! All that you would want from this kind of product and at a very reasonable price. I'd recommend this item to anyone looking for simplicity and value for money.

Received this 10 mins ago - set up in a minute (just time and date), software loaded without hitch (on Vista 32-bit using supplied disk).

All in all, very happy. Compact, lightweight, simple to operate. Quality of recordings seems fine. Transferred files to PC without fuss - WAV format - converted to mp3 with Audacity in seconds.

What I thought might be a headache to source proved to be simple and surprisingly inexpensive. Thanks to all that wrote reviews before me which helped me decide.
