    Yes, i'm very happy with this product. It's the first time i've purchased a dvr and i'm glad to convey it does exactly what it's intended for. As a result it will be used extensively now and in the future. It's small, compact and require's just the two AAA batteries. That compounded by the memory size, makes this item a great piece of kit. If I had any gripe's, they would be the following;
    - the little hat, that attempts to sit on top of the microphone piece (it normally falls off so i don't use it!)
    - I have tried to use it whilst in the car (to record conversations) but the recording is a little muffled (that might be quite normal though in such circumstances?)

    2.0 out of 5 stars WARNING - fatal error in some 3100PCs, 10 Mar 2009
    This was bought for me for Christmas 2008 and at first I was delighted with it. It is easy to use and extremely light and portable. I am a writer and so I used it to record ideas for my books.

    However, only three weeks after taking it out of its box, the DVR suddenly stopped working and simply showed ERR on the screen. Nothing worked - on ringing the technical advice line, they told me how to reset it. However, by doing this, I would wipe all previously recorded data. I wanted to find another way if I could, so I searched online. Immediately I discovered a whole host of people who had had exactly this problem with this product - either showing ERR or CHK - and one very distraught person who had lost 14 hours of vital research interviews.

    As advised by Olympus, I sent the product back for repair. The website promised this within three working days. Ten days later, I rang to enquire. `Oh, we don't repair this product,' said the helpful customer service lady, `we just replace them. We're waiting for new stock to come in, and then we'll send you a new one.'

    Two and a half weeks after sending the faulty product to Olympus, I received a brand new one through the post. Of course, this means I have lost all previously recorded data. There was no explanation in the parcel; no information about why the product needed to be replaced; nothing.

    Now, I am willing to believe there are a number of people out there who have never experienced this problem with this particular device. It may be that there was a faulty batch, and I just happened to be unlucky. That's the reason I'm giving this product two stars and not just one. HOWEVER I am now nervous about using my 3100PC for anything that is vital to my work, as I cannot guarantee that it won't crash like the last one did.

    I'm not saying don't buy it. I'm just warning you that if you're unlucky, you may lose work that cannot be replaced. So maybe a backup is a good idea...
